从交际翻译和语义翻译视角看《经济学人》中的新闻翻译

【摘要】:创办于1943年9月的英国《经济学人》至今已有160多年的历史。该杂志主要关注政治和商业方面的新闻,在国际政治经济领域享有很高的知名度。由于文章中涵盖的词汇量大、表达方式地道,且文章理解难度高,许多准备考研、考博的学生以及其他有英语学习兴趣的人也开始把《经济学人》这类杂志作为他们提高英语的阅读材料。 本文选取2013年第四个季度《经济学人》中的英国,美国和中国专栏中的93篇文章作为分析样本。通过对样本的深入阅读和语料归纳,发现其中金融性和政治性词汇出现频率较高且较为专业,同时所用的表达方式多涉及地道俚语和修辞。 本文试图从纽马克的语义翻译和交际翻译的角度入手,探讨《经济学人》的文本类型和翻译原则。在布勒的语言三功能的基础上,纽马克进一步发展,并将文本分为表达型文本、信息型文本和呼吁型文本。同时纽马克表示这三种文本类型不可能孤立的存在,而是共同存在于一个文本中。按照纽马克对文本类型的归类,《经济学人》作为新闻类杂志,属于表达型文本。作者从四个层面(词法特点,语法特点,修辞及文化因素)对《经济学人》的翻译进行语料分析后,从语义翻译和交际翻译的角度对《经济学人》的翻译策略做了初步归纳。作者认为,由于翻译的本质仍在于保证原文正确信息的传输,避免在翻译上产生任何的不实,误解和模棱两可,因此在翻译涉及词法和语法特点的材料时应运用语义翻译的方法,在译入语语义和句法结构允许的前提下,尽可能准确地再现原文上下文意义;然而,修辞及文化因素大多涉及文体和背景知识,因此在翻译相关文本时应在保证文章意思准确的前提下使用交际翻译,以使译作对译文读者产生的效果尽量等同于原作对原文读者产生的效果。同时,当两者产生冲突时,作者认为应舍弃交际翻译而使用语义翻译,以保证文章意思的准确传递。
[Abstract]:Founded in September 1943, the Economist has a history of more than 160 years. The magazine focuses on political and business news and enjoys a high profile in the international political economy. Due to the large vocabulary covered in the article, the way of expression is authentic, and the difficulty of understanding the article, many of them are prepared to take the postgraduate examination. Cobb's students and others interested in learning English also began to use magazines like the Economist as their reading material to improve their English. In this paper, 93 articles in the column of the United Kingdom, the United States and China in the fourth quarter of 2013 are selected as the analysis samples. It is found that the financial and political words appear frequently and professionally, and the expressions are mostly related to idiomatic slang and rhetoric. This paper attempts to explore the text types and translation principles of the Economist from the perspective of Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation. On the basis of the three functions of Buhler's language, Newmark further develops and divides the text into expressive text, informational text and appeal text. At the same time, Newmark indicates that these three text types can not exist in isolation, but co-exist in one text. According to Newmark's classification of text types, the Economist, as a news magazine, belongs to expressive text. After analyzing the translation of the Economist from four aspects (lexical features, grammatical features, rhetoric and cultural factors), the author makes a preliminary summary of the translation strategies of the Economist from the perspective of semantic translation and communicative translation. The author believes that since the essence of translation is still to ensure the transmission of the correct information in the original text, so as to avoid any errors, misunderstandings and ambiguities in translation, Therefore, when translating materials involving lexical and grammatical features, semantic translation should be used to reproduce the contextual meaning of the original text as accurately as possible, provided that the target language's semantics and syntactic structure permit. Most of the rhetorical and cultural factors involve stylistic and background knowledge. Therefore, communicative translation should be used in translation of relevant texts on the premise of ensuring the accuracy of the meaning of the text. So that the effect of the translation on the target readers is as much as that of the original text. At the same time, the author thinks that semantic translation should be used instead of communicative translation in order to ensure the accurate transmission of the meaning of the text.
