【摘要】： 在多元民族多元文化的美国,一个少数族裔群体的政治参与度及影响力一直以来是衡量其融入美国主流社会的重要标准。作为享誉世界的“模范少数族裔’’,美国华人在经济地位,教育水平和文化融入等方面都取得了巨大的进步。1965年民权法案和选举权法案的颁布实施赋予了美国各少数族裔群体公平参与美国政治的权利,一些优秀的美国华人代表也在过去的几十年中积极参与政治,并取得了一定的成绩。然而与其他族裔群体相比,美国华人的政治影响力仍然有限,美国华人政治在一定程度上尚处于边缘化的状态。一直以来,华人都被美国主流社会认为是缺乏政治意识和投票率低的少数族裔群体。比较华人在近三届的美国总统大选中的表现,其投票率持续上升,政治热情也不断增强；但是其对美国政治政策的影响力并没有相应得提高。本文从美国种族族裔关系的历史发展进程,美国华人移民史,美国华人社会经济地位的发展,美国华人人口数量及分布特点,美国华人身份和文化认同,美国华人社区民主意识和政治参与,美国华人精英参政模式及影响力,中美关系对美国华人生活的影响和美国政治体制及选举制度等方面,全面综合分析美国华人的政治参与及其影响力问题。在多元文化主义潮流的影响下,未来少数族裔和主流文化的交流交融会更多于彼此间的冲突,这也为美国华人提高政治影响力和融入美国主流社会提供了有利的社会文化环境。
