“本是切己之事”乃误校

【摘要】：庚辰本第十九回与甲戌本第二十六回中都有"生员切己之事"的批语。近人邓遂夫先生在两种校本中将它们都校改为"本是切己之事",并说"生员"乃"本是"二字草书形近而讹。本文试图循着邓先生的思路,在《草书大字典》、《敦煌俗字典》、《魏晋南北朝碑刻异体字典》等工具书所收载的四字字形中仔细比勘"生"与"本"、"员"与"是",遗憾地发现,它们并没有产生混错的几率;又在文献材料中找到了一些"生员(秀才)切己之事"的例证,从而证明了邓先生关于这两条批语的校勘属于"卤莽灭裂,以不误为误"的误校。
