[Abstract]:As a branch of literature, children's literature has its own characteristics as well as the characteristics of general literature. This is because children have their special cognitive characteristics, language characteristics, psychological development characteristics. Children's literature, both at home and abroad, is an important spiritual food for children. Many excellent children's literature works have been introduced in our country, some of them have been retranslated and published repeatedly, many new works have been continuously introduced and published, and many excellent translations have been welcomed by the vast number of children's readers. However, the theoretical study of children's literature translation is relatively backward in China, which can be seen from the articles published in some core translation magazines. It can be said that the study of children's literature translation seems to have been unable to go beyond the limitations of adult literature translation studies. This paper attempts to apply functional theory to the practice of children's literary translation in order to prove that functional theory plays a guiding role in the study of children's literary translation. In the field of children's literature, the principle of children's standard has been recognized. The translation of children's literature is the re-creation of children's literature, so the translation of children's literature must be a child-oriented translation, which determines that the translation of children's literature must take into account the characteristics of children and choose vocabulary. The choice of sentence patterns and the handling of cultural differences take into account their psychological and cognitive characteristics. The Skopos Theory points out that the whole process of translation, including the choice of translation methods and strategies, is determined by the purpose of translation behavior. The function theory puts the target readers in a position of importance to the original author, which coincides with the child-based theory. From the perspective of functional theory, this paper makes a contrastive analysis of the translation differences caused by different translation purposes, and confirms the rationality of different translation strategies and translation methods adopted by different translators in order to achieve their translation purposes. From the perspective of functional theory, the merits and demerits of translation should not be judged solely on the basis of normative and unified criteria, but should be classified into the category of judgment by the target readers, so as to judge the merits and demerits of the translation from a wider perspective. This paper analyzes the application of functional theory in children's literature translation through a comparative study of three Chinese versions of Charlotte's Web. Under the framework of functional theory, combining the characteristics of children and children's literature, this paper analyzes the differences between them from three aspects: lexical choice, sentence pattern selection and cultural difference treatment. The conclusion of the analysis is that due to the different translation purposes, translators adopt strategies conducive to the realization of their translation purposes, resulting in three Chinese versions of different styles which are widely accepted by different readers.
