【摘要】：《红楼梦》是中国文学史上最优秀的小说之一,是由曹雪芹先生在十八世纪中期创作的经典巨作。这部作品被称为是“中国古典文化的百科全书”。这部小说在中国文学史上和世界文学史上都享有极高的荣誉和地位。这是一部极其有影响力的小说,有着极高的文化和美学价值。曹雪芹不仅是一位杰出的作家而且还是一位可以在作品当中自如的运用颜色词的画家。在《红楼梦》这部小说当中,有许多的颜色词,例如自然界中的橙色,绿色,黑色,蓝色和紫色都被很好的用来描写景色,表达情感等。这些颜色词赋予了红楼梦这部小说特殊的意义。曹雪芹用颜色词和颜色意象展现在读者面前一幅五彩斑斓的画卷,使读者好像亲眼目睹了一个封建社会大家庭由盛而衰的过程。 在英汉两种语言中,颜色词都有着相同的和不同的象征意义和联想意义。对以特定颜色词的理解不可避免地会把这个颜色词所属的文化背景考虑进来。那么,在翻译这些颜色词的时候,译者要把语言和他们的文化都考虑进来。汉语和英语有着不同的起源,因此他们的语言特征和文化内涵显然也是不同的。由于这些差异,尤其是表达和文化的差异,在翻译当中很难达到完全对等。红色,在中国有着特殊的地位和内涵。红色,不论是在人名,地名,服饰,物品还是诗歌等中,它的出现频率都是极其高的,在整部作品当中,红字出现了632次,足以反映了中国源远流长的红字历史文化。作者选择了原作《红楼梦》和杨宪益、霍克斯的两个翻译版本的前八十回的红字共232个例子作为研究对象。此篇文章,通过大量的数据对比,旨在研究红字在《红楼梦》中的作用和在目的论的角度下两个译本所采取的翻译策略。并且,作者通过摘取分析,列举了两个翻译版本对于同一个词的多样表达法,对于英语学习者对词汇表达多样性的学习和更好的欣赏这部小说都会有所帮助。
