【摘要】：本文首先通过追溯隐喻(metaphor)研究的认知观的历史渊源，对隐喻流派和历史作了 回顾性的分析，并指出各个流派的不足和缺点。 隐喻的本质是一种认知现象，而不是传统观点所认为的简单的语言现象。 这一点在 Lakoff 的概念隐喻(conceptual metaphor)中得到了较为完整的阐释。本文分别解释了他提 出的三种概念隐喻和死喻(dead metaphor), 通感(synaesthesia)两种比较特殊的概念隐喻。 概念隐喻的特点揭示了隐喻根植于客观的经验，并非是随意组合构建的。隐喻以经 验主义(experientialism)哲学作为自己的方法论基础，以意象图式(image schema)作为认知 经验的基础。在运作机制上，Lakoff 提出映射原理，主要是指两个认知域之间的映射， 特别是将一个比较熟悉易于理解的源域(source domain)的框架投射到一个不熟悉较难理 解的目标域(target domain)上。Faucconier 和 Turner 的合成空间理论(blended space theory) 指出 Lakoff 的理论中的不足并对其加以完善。隐喻不是两个域之间的简单的映射，而是 涉及到相互作用的四个心理空间(mental space)，最终形成合成空间(blended space)和层创 结构(emergent structure)。 隐喻的认知功能可以帮助我们组织概念系统，从全新的角度认识事物。本文研究的 意义旨在将隐喻运用于第二语言教学，特别是希望对英语的写作和文化的学习能起到一 定的促进作用。
