[Abstract]:Alice Walker is an outstanding African-American woman writer. With her masterpiece, Purple, Walker became the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize. As a black woman, she is very concerned about the survival of black women and is committed to promoting equality and harmony between the sexes. This is reflected in most of her works. The Light of the Father's smile is another piece of the author's work on this idea. Since its publication, Father's smile has aroused heated discussion among scholars and critics at home and abroad. From the perspective of eco-feminism, feminism, narratology and other critical perspectives, the research on Foucault's power theory is relatively new and has a broader research space. In the Light of the Father's smile Walker focuses on the functioning of the human social network of power and the existence of the individual in the network of power. Therefore, this thesis tries to use Foucault's theory of power to interpret the Light of Father's smile. The paper consists of five parts. The first part briefly introduces Alice Walker, the Light of the Father's smile, and previous studies on this work at home and abroad. In addition, Foucault power theory is also included. Chapter one shows the suffering of mothers and daughters under the oppression of patriarchal power. In order to conquer women, men used discipline such as inspection, surveillance and standardized adjudication. As a result, women are not only victims of patriarchy, but also accomplices. Chapter two explores the resistance of modern women, such as Magdalina, Susanna, Irene and Pauline, to the brutal patriarchal system. They struggle with paternity by controlling their bodies, gaining voice and pursuing sisterhood and autonomy. The third chapter discusses the efforts made by women in the process of uniting their compatriots and reconciling with men to get rid of the oppression of patriarchy and to strive for real liberation. The final part is the conclusion, which emphasizes that women must combine resistance at the individual level with solidarity among groups so that they can achieve their desire for gender equality and harmony. Foucault's theory of power is of great significance to the development of modern women.
