《双城记》的叙事声音研究

【摘要】：查尔斯·狄更斯(Charles Dickens,1812-1870)是英国文学史上最杰出的小说家之一,幽默风趣的语言和对人物形象的生动刻画是他重要的两个写作风格。《双城记》创作于他文学生涯的晚期,尽管该作品在风格上并不是典型的狄更斯式,但其高超的叙事技巧及精细的情节设置仍使该作品受到极大的欢迎。本文通过运用热拉尔·热奈特及韦恩·布斯等人的相关叙事理论,来分析《双城记》中的叙述声音及其作用。文本中,叙事声音主要由两个部分组成,全知叙述者的声音以及人物的声音。占据话语主导权的全知叙述者将其声音聚焦于四个方面,提供背景信息的声音,包括社会环境及人物状况两个部分的声音;无处不在的悬念设置中对叙事声音的安排;揭示人物内心活动的声音以及公开性的评论。人物的声音中,洛瑞先生作为马奈特家庭的知己,他的声音一方面在全知叙述者刻意隐退自己的声音时确保了叙述的正常进行,另一方面也呈现了他公私分明的性格特点。作为小说中的关键人物,西德尼·卡顿由自暴自弃到自我救赎的叙述声音的变化则包含了他对人生态度的转变。德伐日太太的声音始终充满了仇恨的,同时也代表了许多底层被压迫群众的声音。而作为作者在文本中的第二个自我,隐含作者通过全知叙述者及部分人物的声音来向读者传递他的价值判断和情感取舍,而文中全知叙述者的价值观念和隐含作者基本保持一种,因此,可被视为是可靠的叙述者,同时,借助不同的叙事声音,隐含作者对被扭曲的革命进行了尖锐的讽刺。尽管通过运用不同理论对《双城记》的研究从没有停止过,但借助叙事学相关理论对其叙述声音的解读尚无人触及,希望该论文是一次有益的尝试并可为读者提供一个新的阅读视角,从而推动更多学者从不同角度对该小说进行解读。
[Abstract]:Charles Dickenson 1812-1870) is one of the most outstanding novelists in the history of English literature. Humorous language and vivid portrayal of characters are two important writing styles. Although the work is not typical of Dickens in style, But its superb narrative skills and elaborate plot settings still make the work very popular. This paper uses the narrative theories of Gerald Genett and Wayne Booth, and so on. To analyze the narrative sound and its function in the Book of two cities. In the text, the narrative sound is composed of two parts. The voice of the omniscient narrator and the voice of the character. The omniscient narrator who occupies the dominant power of discourse focuses his voice on four aspects, providing the sound of background information, including the two parts of the social environment and the character's condition. The arrangement of narrative sounds in ubiquitous suspense settings; the voice of revealing the movements of the characters and the open commentary. In the voices of the characters, Mr. Lori is the confidant of the Manette family. His voice, on the one hand, ensures the normal conduct of the narration when the all-knowing narrator deliberately withdraws his voice, on the other hand, it also presents his public and private character. As the key character in the novel, The change in Sidney Catton's narrative voice, from self-denial to self-redemption, involved a shift in his attitude towards life. Mrs. Defarge's voice was always full of hatred. It also represents the voice of many underclass oppressed masses. As the author's second self in the text, the implied author conveys his value judgment and emotional trade-offs to the reader through the voices of the all-knowing narrator and some of the characters. However, the values of the all-knowing narrator and the implied author are basically the same, so they can be regarded as reliable narrators, and at the same time, with the help of different narrative sounds, The implied author makes a sharp satire on the distorted revolution. Although the study of the Tale of two cities through different theories has never stopped, the interpretation of its narrative voice by the relevant theories of narratology has not been touched upon. It is hoped that this paper is a useful attempt and can provide readers with a new perspective of reading so as to promote more scholars to interpret the novel from different angles.
