【摘要】：“家族小说”作为一种叙事题材，拥有较长的发展历史。它往往将家族的繁荣和衰微与国家的历史发展、民族命运的跌宕巧妙结合，追求一种史诗的品格。特别是用现实主义笔法所描绘的“家族小说”更能将作者对于特定历史时期的感悟与思考，以文学性的品质呈现出来，在看到历史本真的同时，又不乏艺术的魅力。高尔斯华绥正是这样一位作家，他以福尔赛群像为蓝本的“家族小说”，以家族人物的命运起伏为中心，突显整个家族的生存状态，在家族的空间里建立起恢弘、庞大的文学景象。在真实的历史场景中抒写日常生活，因为日常生活是一个时代的真正载体。高尔斯华绥就是要在最日常化、最生活化的地方写出人物的本真性格，让人物有血有肉的呈现在读者面前。同时，以家族中的人物来贯穿叙事的始末，，将自己的感情经历与人生阅历结合到自己的创作中。高尔斯华绥在努力塑造具有“福尔赛血统”的整体形象时，虽然受的历史时代和个人思想意识的束缚而存在一些瑕疵，但他对现实主义文学传统的继承和发展更值得肯定。高尔斯华绥用文学的方式去帮助人们理解大变革时代中的社会现象，呈现了英国的生活方式、时代命运，他的“家族小说”是世界文学史上不可或缺的一块瑰宝。
