从新历史主义角度分析《霍默与兰利》

【摘要】：《霍默和兰利》是E.L.多克托罗创作的最佳作品之一。它继承了多克托罗将历史与虚构融合的一贯风格,讲述了居住在纽约的科利尔兄弟从20世纪初期到70年代末期的生活轨迹。一方面,该小说取材于历史上真实的科利尔兄弟的案例,并描述了这段时期的重大历史事件。另一方面,作者虚构了众多人物与科利尔兄弟进行互动,他们的生活状态和心理状态成为我们了解历史的一面镜子。宏大的历史通过人物的具体生活表现出来,从而向读者呈现历史的另类解读。新历史主义关注历史与虚构、历史与文学之间的关系,因此用作本论文的理论框架。历史的文本性和文本的历史性是该论文主要的理论支点。整体而言,“历史的文本性”主要体现在多克托罗笔下描述的大半个世纪历史的宏观画面。历史是一种叙事和解读,它既不是绝对的也不是单一的。《霍默和兰利》从某种程度上来说就是多克托罗对历史的个人解读。“文本的历史性”主要表现在,《霍默和兰利》作为一部文学作品,会受到作者所生活的时代背景的制约,同时也能反映这个时期的真实历史。理论与文本的结合分析将通过文章主干的三章表现出来。本论文第一章着重讲述“历史”部分,即真实的历史事件和科利尔兄弟,同时通过分析多克托罗的改写来探讨小说的虚构部分。第二章主要探讨小说中物体、行为和人物的隐喻意义和启示意义。第三章主要探讨个人与历史之间的关系,历史会强加影响给个人,个人无法逃避历史。本论文的结论是,多克托罗不仅从历史中汲取素材,他的创造和重塑部分同样重要。《霍默和兰利》不仅是对历史的一种全新解读,同时也对现代人的生活方式给予启示意义。
[Abstract]:< Homer and Langley > is E. One of Doctorow's best works. It inherits Doctorow's style of blending history with fiction and tells the trajectory of the Collier brothers living in New York from the early 1920s to the late 1970s. On the one hand, the novel is based on the real case of the Collier brothers in history and describes the major historical events of this period. On the other hand, many characters interact with the Collier brothers, and their living and psychological states become a mirror of our understanding of history. Grand history is manifested through the specific life of the characters, thus presenting the readers with a different interpretation of history. Neo-historicism focuses on the relationship between history and fiction, history and literature, so it serves as the theoretical framework of this thesis. The text of history and the history of text are the main theoretical fulcrum of this paper. As a whole, the textual nature of history is mainly reflected in the macroscopic picture of the history of half a century described by Doctorow. History is a narrative and interpretation, it is neither absolute nor single. < Homer and Langley > is, to some extent, Doctorow's personal interpretation of history. The history of the text is mainly manifested in that, as a literary work, "Homer and Langley" will be restricted by the background of the times in which the author lives, and at the same time it can reflect the real history of this period. The combination of theory and text will be expressed through the three chapters of the main body of the article. The first chapter focuses on the "history", that is, the real historical events and the Collier brothers, and discusses the fictional part of the novel by analyzing the rewriting of Doctorow. Chapter two mainly discusses the metaphorical meaning and enlightening meaning of objects, behaviors and characters in the novel. The third chapter mainly discusses the relationship between the individual and history. History can impose influence on the individual, and the individual cannot escape from the history. The conclusion of this paper is that Doctorow not only draws material from history, but also his creation and remodeling are equally important. < Homer and Langley > is not only a new interpretation of history, but also a revelation to modern people's way of life.
