论《洪堡的礼物》中的隐喻与象征

　　索尔·贝娄（Saul Bellow,1915-2005）是美国20世纪最杰出的作家之一。他在美国文学史上的地位可以与海明威和福克纳相比肩,一生获得过很多奖项,并于1976年荣获诺贝尔文学奖。《洪堡的礼物》是他的杰作之一,也是一部“贝娄风格”的代表作。在这部小说中,贝娄描写了第一位真正的文学艺术家形象,充分表现了对现代商业技术社会中文学艺术家地位的关注。本文重点以《洪堡的礼物》为研究对象,采用英美新批评,尤其是文本分析和价值评判的方法,从隐喻与象征的角度,详细地分析了这部作品,为读者提供了一个更加清晰彻底地理解贝娄作品主题的新视角,同时也是对《洪堡的礼物》研究的补充。本文首先对贝娄及其作品研究状况加以简要介绍,然后着重从隐喻的角度,详细分析了小说中标题、主人公、黑人灵歌“回家”等的隐喻功能。贝娄所使用的隐喻从人物的出场、以“gift”为中心展开情节到最后“回家”结束,意在表明两代文人的存在与现代物质世界的冲突斗争,体现出作品中“生存—命运—死亡”的人生主线。小说中三部剧本《冯·特伦克》、《考多夫雷多》和《科科伦》的出现更进一步强调了主题。接着论文进一步详细阐述了象征在小说中的实际作用,并...
