【摘要】：约翰·马克斯维尔·库切2003年获得诺贝尔文学奖,他的小说以经历殖民和种族隔离历史的南非为背景,在对南非历史和现实境遇的观照中,反映人类整体的生存状况,同时他严肃地思考历史与个人,权力与知识生产,理性与文明等问题。值得关注的是,独特的成长背景造就了他对创伤的关注,创伤书写几乎贯穿了库切的整个创作生涯。写于1980年的长篇小说《等待野蛮人》是第一部为库切赢得国际声誉的作品,自出版以来,鲜有研究将作品中的创伤与作者的救赎情结结合起来进行研究,也缺乏对创伤进行系统的分类和具体原因探析。本文认为库切在《等待野蛮人》将自己对人类苦难的关注与文学创作相结合,成功赋予小说强烈的思想性和艺术性。库切的创伤情结缘起于独特的南非历史文化语境,并在具体作品中都有体现,如《幽暗之地》中的战争伤痛,《铁器时代》中的种族之殇,《耻》中的种族隔离之痛和《等待野蛮人》中的边缘之恸。特别在《等待野蛮人》中,库切全方位、多维度的展示了受害者、施暴者和见证者的个体与集体创伤。值得关注的是,库切还巧妙地在文本中隐藏了文学、政治与宗教三层救赎策略,以表达其获得和解与救赎的愿望。此外,库切在《等待野蛮人》中对创伤的关注蕴含了他对历史与个人,西方道德和功利主义关系的深思。除了思想的丰富性,库切还是一名具有良知,有责任,有道德的白人,他用自己的文字力量直面人类苦难,直指文明弊端,表达自己深切的人文关怀,并唤起当代人对世界范围内依然存在的弱者和创伤的关注。
