“经世致用”与“为学问而学问”——柳诒徵“史学致用”论发微

【摘要】：在史学研究之中,"经世致用"与"为学问而学问"两种治学态度常被相提并论。孰是孰非,众说纷纭。一代史家柳诒徵高张"经世致用"之旗,明确反对"为学问而学问"。对其"史学致用"论潜研深探,并与当时相关论说相互比较,则可发现"经世致用"与"为学问而学问"之争,层面有二:第一层面易有共识,第二层面则殊难调和。当代论者探讨两者之争,多将两个层面混而为一,益发淆乱。因此回顾柳氏"史学致用"之论,梳理二者之争,也就极有必要。
[Abstract]:In the study of historiography, the two academic attitudes of "applying to the world" and "learning for the sake of learning" are often compared. There are different opinions as to which is right and what is wrong. Liu Yizheng, a generation of historians, raised the banner of "applying to the world" and explicitly opposed "learning for the sake of learning". By studying his theory of "historical application" and comparing it with the relevant theories at that time, we can find that there are two aspects of the dispute between "applying to the world" and "learning for the sake of learning": the first level is easy to have consensus, and the second level is difficult to reconcile. Contemporary theorists discuss the dispute between the two, mix the two levels into one, and become more confused. Therefore, it is very necessary to review Liu's theory of "historical application" and sort out the dispute between the two.
