[Abstract]:The social and cultural interaction in Northeast Asia has grown surprisingly, which makes Northeast Asia the center of global economic activities. However, the wounds suffered during colonial rule and war in the past have not yet been fully healed, and historical issues have become a very controversial diplomatic issue throughout the region. The current stalemate in regional relations requires a commitment to face corrosive nationalism derived from outstanding historical issues. History is not just a description of past events or developments. In the process of repairing historical memory, some parts are omitted or emphasized, resulting in distorted or incomplete memory in different countries. These broken historical memories divide the nation and lead to different often contradictory views. We urgently need to better understand each other's position and carry out balanced history education. Such efforts should also be encouraged by the international community, including the United States. Neglecting or distorting the unfortunate past means not only evading historical responsibility, but also missing the opportunity to learn from history.
