【摘要】： 柳宗元是我国唐代著名的哲学家、政治家和文学家，在科学思想方面也有一定的造诣。但长期以来，他的科学思想并未引起研究者的足够重视。有鉴于此，本文对柳宗元的科学思想做了拾遗补阙性质的研究，以期在学术界对柳宗元的研究方面能够有所裨益。柳宗元的科学思想首先表现在他的气本论思想上。柳宗元的气本论思想贯穿于他的整个元气学说。他把元气作为宇宙起源和物质生成的本原，并认为元气存在于“无中无旁”的无限空间中，因此元气也是无限的。柳宗元对人之所以具有聪明才智的原因解释，引起了学术界的争议。笔者从他的气本论思想出发说明问题的真相，，为这场争论画上了句号。柳宗元的科学思想在他对天人关系的认识上也有充分体现。柳宗元经历了一个对天人感应崇信、怀疑和批判的过程，最终形成了“天人不相预”的天人观。他批判天命，注重人事，把对天人关系的认识提高到了一个新的层次。柳宗元的天文学思想也值得一提。柳宗元的天文学思想并不丰富。当时浑天说已被人们广泛接受，而他一方面用宣夜说解释天体；另一方面又用盖天说解释太阳运行和昼夜更替，说明他没有系统的天文学理论。
