[Abstract]:The writer of modern times always describes Beiping in the 1930's in the difficult to understand Peiping, "Peiping is as great as the sea, and there seems to be no division between space and time." He can accept the old and the present, the old and the new, the conflict, the most contradictory phenomenon, in him is calm, not even a bit discordant, "cars and carriages drive together, fashionable girls and women with small feet. During the Republic of China, this mixture of new and old is likely to be understood as a transitional feature. Because of the heavy burden of Beijing's tradition, the pace of modernization seems to be striking.
