“洞见”与“不察”——论夏志清、李欧梵、王德威眼中的“感时忧国”精神

【摘要】：美国华裔汉学家夏志清、李欧梵、王德威,都在各自评述中国现代文学的重要作品中谈到了其"感时忧国"精神。他们虽然并未对这一特点持激烈批判态度,但都看到了其消极的一面。不过,他们三人的侧重点各不相同。夏志清侧重探讨其缺乏国际化的文学视野和艺术深度;李欧梵侧重剖析其因背上现实重负而缺乏"现代性"品质;王德威侧重揭示其骨子里的陈旧不堪和对晚清诸种可能的"现代性"的压抑。他们三人对中国现代文学这种"感时忧国"精神特质的认识,是与他们所秉持的世界文学视野分不开的。三人对中国现代文学这种精神特质的复杂认识,均出于他们将其与"现代性"、"世界文学"等观念纠缠在一起,并试图以后者为标准评判前者,从而使他们的诸多观点表现出"洞见"与"不察"并存的矛盾景象。
[Abstract]:Chinese American Sinologists Xia Zhiqing, O'Fin Lee, and David Wang have all talked about their spirit of "feeling the time and worrying about the country" in their respective important works on modern Chinese literature, although they have not taken a fierce critical attitude towards this characteristic. But they all saw the negative side. However, the three of them had different emphases. Xia Zhiqing focused on his lack of internationalized literary vision and artistic depth. Li Oufan focuses on the analysis of his lack of "modernity" because of the heavy burden of reality on his back. Wang Dewei focuses on revealing the old and the oppression of the possible "modernity" in the late Qing Dynasty. The three of them are aware of the spiritual characteristic of "feeling the time and worrying about the country" in modern Chinese literature. It is inseparable from the vision of world literature they hold. The three people's complex understanding of the spiritual characteristics of modern Chinese literature is due to their entanglement with the concepts of "modernity" and "world literature". The author tries to judge the former on the basis of the latter so as to show the contradiction between "insight" and "ignorance" in many of their viewpoints.
