林语堂主要争议事件的梳理与反思

【摘要】：林语堂不惟是中国现代文坛的风云人物,而且是一个典型的争议人物。回顾他八十余年的心路历程,他一生的各个阶段似乎都充满了争议,那些极具争议的事件使他显得与时代同人格格不入,先前学者对林语堂争议事件的考据多囿于政治、阶级的立场,抑或未对其进行整体性考察。鉴于林语堂一生当中争议事件的繁杂性,本文选择了几个主要的争议事件并进行综合性研究,分别是:三十年代轰动文坛的幽默文学;抗战期间身居海外;五十年代新加坡南洋大学事件;六十年代定居台湾后的“尼姑思凡”风波等代表性事件。正是各个时期行为处事的争议,才说明林语堂“在文学史中也许是最不容易写的一章”。以上主要争议事件对林语堂的声誉和形象关涉很深。本文以“争议”事件作为行文的线索和叙述中心。结构上,将文章划分为四个平行的章节,一、四章结构类似,二、三章又各有不同。内容上,第一章以林语堂提倡幽默文学所引起的争议为主题,从倡导幽默的背景及双方分论点着手,考察跳脱时代束缚的幽默文学的客观意义和价值;第二章将林语堂抗战期间不在国内与不回大陆定居两件事合并,同归为“家国情怀”所引发的争议,主要从关注国事、文化抗战、归乡无奈等方面作出回应;第三章为轰动星马的林语堂与南洋大学事件,主要叙述事件的详细始末,利于清晰地呈现双方的态度和立场,便于读者自行判断;第四章为林语堂晚年惹起的“尼姑思凡”风波,从双方论点入手,引申为林语堂“近情”立场下的考察,呈现近情哲学的意义和价值。聚焦林语堂主要争议事件,对于还原他的真实面目大有帮助,认清多重争议性下的真实林语堂。对于林语堂既往遭受的公或不公的评价,笔者也试图通过爬梳历史细节,反思林语堂的历史价值及学术研究应有的立场。
[Abstract]:Lin Yutang is not only a modern Chinese literary figure, but also a typical controversial figure. Looking back on his 80 years of mental journey, it seems that all stages of his life are full of controversy. Those highly controversial events made him appear to be out of step with the times. Previous scholars' textual research on Lin Yutang's controversy was largely confined to the political and class position. In view of the complexity of the controversial events in Lin Yutang's life, this paper chooses several major controversy events and carries on a comprehensive study. They are: 30s sensational humorous literature; During the War of Resistance against Japan, he lived overseas; the incident at Nanyang University in Singapore on 50s; and the representative incident of "nuns Sifan" after settling in Taiwan in 60s. It shows that Lin Yutang "may be the most difficult chapter to write in the history of literature". The above major controversy events have a deep bearing on the reputation and image of Lin Yutang. This article takes the "dispute" event as the clue and narrative center of the writing. Structurally, The article is divided into four parallel chapters, one and four chapters are similar in structure, two and three chapters are different. In content, the first chapter focuses on the controversy caused by Lin Yutang's advocacy of humorous literature, starting from the background of advocating humor and the arguments of both sides. This chapter examines the objective significance and value of humorous literature which is bound by the times. The second chapter combines Lin Yutang's absence from the mainland during the War of Resistance against Japan and does not return to the mainland to settle down in the same way as the controversy caused by "the feelings of home and country", mainly from paying attention to state affairs. The third chapter deals with the events of Lin Yutang and Nanyang University, which are sensational in order to clearly present the attitudes and positions of both sides and to facilitate the readers to judge themselves. Chapter 4th is the "nun Sifan" storm caused by Lin Yutang in his later years. Starting from the arguments of both sides, it is extended to the investigation under the standpoint of "proximity" of Lin Yutang, presenting the significance and value of the philosophy of close feeling. It is of great help to restore his true face and to recognize the real Lin Yutang under the multiple controversies. The author also tries to comb the historical details by crawling through the historical details of the public or unfair evaluation that Lin Yutang has suffered in the past. Reflect on Lin Yutang's historical value and academic research should stand.
