顺应理论视角下英语委婉语的语用研究

【摘要】：委婉语,以婉转间接语言达到最终交际目的,广泛运用于社会的交际中,是人类认知过程不断进步完善的语言表象。作为一种间接言语行为,它的存在带来了语气的缓和,委婉避免了冲突和抗拒。因此,委婉语是协调人际关系的重要手段,最终达到交流的意义,是一种语言艺术。迄今为止,它的簇拥者遍布国内外,在修辞学、语义学文学翻译等不同领域遍及着它的身影。其研究成果在提高人们的言语认识及促进交际水平方面具有深远影响。但词汇、语义、结构方面的理论研究拘泥于静态研究,这使得委婉语的静态研究本身较难有发展突破。本文基于Verschueren“语用综观”概念和顺应理论,试图从动态角度更加全面探讨委婉语,旨在探索哪些语境因素影响英语委婉语的使用,从而分析委婉语的生成机制即具体语境变量如何影响委婉语的选择过程,从动态的角度挖掘委婉语所蕴含的语用功能,为委婉语的进一步研究提供新的视角。本文是基于语料定性分析。首先,收集并对资料进行分类,所引用的典型例子来源于报刊,文学作品,字典,电影等。然后,由于委婉语使用的广泛性,其生成机制和语用功能是本文研究的重心,主要是从语言语境和交际语境两方面进行探讨,分析语料在不同语境中的顺应过程,即委婉语是如何顺应语境变量,从而提高交际效果的。最后,根据语料分析表明,英语委婉语的使用必定要顺应多方面语境因素影响,包括语言语境当中的语码和语体,情态,信息通道和语言结构;交际语境中的心理世界,社交世界和物质世界。其中心理世界包含了对话双方的个人性格,情感,说话动机(避免禁忌语和敏感话题,表达尊敬礼貌,展现幽默等);社交世界则包括性别,年龄,社会地位,社会价值体系,宗教信仰。物质世界则指以及会话发生的物理环境。从而总结出英语委婉语的主要语用功能包括礼貌功能,避讳功能,美化提升功能和幽默功能。顺应理论为委婉语的深究提供了一个较为全面和科学的理论框架,它更好地地解释了委婉语的产生和语用功能,因此本文最后对英语教学和跨文化交际提出可行性建议。
[Abstract]:Euphemism, which is widely used in social communication, is the language representation of human cognitive process. As an indirect speech act, its existence brings tone relaxation and euphemism avoids conflict and resistance. Therefore, euphemism is an important means to coordinate interpersonal relations and ultimately achieve the meaning of communication. It is a language art. Up to now, its followers have spread all over the world, including rhetoric, semantics and literary translation. The research results have a profound effect on improving people's speech cognition and promoting communication level. However, the theoretical study of vocabulary, semantics and structure is confined to static study, which makes it difficult for the static study of euphemism to make a breakthrough. Based on the concept of pragmatics and adaptation theory of Verschueren, this paper attempts to explore euphemism from a dynamic perspective, with a view to exploring what contextual factors affect the use of English euphemism. This paper analyzes how the specific context variables affect the selection process of euphemism, and explores the pragmatic functions of euphemism from a dynamic point of view, which provides a new perspective for the further study of euphemism. This paper is based on qualitative analysis of corpus. First of all, collect and classify the data. The cited examples come from newspapers, literature, dictionaries, movies and so on. Then, due to the extensive use of euphemism, its generative mechanism and pragmatic function are the focus of this study, mainly from the linguistic context and the communicative context, to analyze the adaptation process of the corpus in different contexts. That is, how euphemism adapts to contextual variables to improve the communicative effect. Finally, according to the corpus analysis, the use of English euphemism must adapt to various contextual factors, including the code and style, modality, information channel and language structure in the linguistic context, and the psychological world in the communicative context. The social world and the material world. The psychological world includes the personality, emotion and motivation of both sides of the dialogue (avoiding taboo words and sensitive topics, expressing respect for politeness, showing humor, etc.), while the social world includes gender, age, social status, social value system, etc. Religious belief. The physical world refers to the physical environment in which the conversation takes place. The main pragmatic functions of English euphemism include politeness function, taboo function, beautification function and humor function. Adaptation theory provides a more comprehensive and scientific theoretical framework for the study of euphemism, which better explains the production and pragmatic functions of euphemism. Therefore, this paper finally puts forward some feasible suggestions for English teaching and cross-cultural communication.
