“杜十娘怒沉百宝箱”中小说对话翻译的功能对等分析

【摘要】:本文以功能对等理论为视角,从小说对话塑造人物形象的角色心理暗示、角色身份体现、角色性格揭示的三方面对杨宪益“杜十娘怒沉百宝箱”译文中的对话英译进行了分析,探寻译文对话的处理对人物形象的再现。 小说中的人物语言是洗练精粹、生动活泼、朴实自然的个性化语言。通过小说中的人物对话,可知人物角色的性格、思想、感情、阶级地位、文化修养、职业以及性别、尊卑等,甚至还可想象出说话人的神态和音调。简言之,小说对话具有塑造人物形象的功能,不仅能表现人物复杂的心理活动,揭示人物身份,同时也能鲜明地表现出人物的性格特征。翻译人物对话时,应当准确地再现其表现的角色形象,使译语读者与源语读者对角色形象的反应大体一致。“杜十娘怒沉百宝箱”出自明代白话小说集《警世通言》中的卷32,是冯梦龙的代表作品中的名篇,具有强烈的感染力和思想内容,同时也是中国古代文学史上最为杰出的短篇小说之一。小说通过人物对话塑造的人物形象生动真实,相应地翻译其对话时应当再现其表现的人物形象。强调接受语读者对接受语的反应与源语读者对源语的反应大体一样的功能对等理论可以有效地指导具备人物形象塑造功能的小说对话翻译,使译语读者对译本中人物对话传达出的角色形象的感应与源语读者对源文本中人物对话反映的角色形象的感应大体一致。 通过分析发现译文中对话的处理再现了对话塑造的人物形象,能够让译语读者感受到与源语文本读者感受类似的角色形象,这与功能对等理论的“读者反映论”相匹配,验证了用功能对等方法指导小说对话翻译的合理性和可操作性,,为小说对话翻译及其翻译评析提供了理论依据。
[Abstract]:From the perspective of functional equivalence theory, this paper analyzes the English translation of dialogue in Yang Xianyi's translation of du Shiniang's anger and treasure box from three aspects: the psychological implication of characters, the embodiment of character and the revealing of character. This paper explores the representation of the characters by the processing of the translation dialogue. The character language in the novel is the individualized language of essence, lively, simple and natural. Through the dialogue of characters in the novel, we can know the character, thought, emotion, class status, cultural accomplishment, occupation and gender, superiority and inferiority of the character, and even imagine the manner and tone of the speaker. In short, the novel dialogue has the function of portraying the character image, which can not only express the complex psychological activity of the character, reveal the character identity, but also show the character characteristic clearly at the same time. In the process of translating characters, the role images should be accurately reproduced so that the readers of the target language and the readers of the source language generally respond to the role images. Du Shiniang's anger and heavy treasure box, which is a famous piece in Feng Menglong's representative works, comes from volume 32 of the collection of vernacular novels of the Ming Dynasty, called "the Throne of the Police," which has a strong appeal and ideological content. It is also one of the most outstanding short stories in the history of ancient Chinese literature. The characters created by the character dialogue in the novel are vivid and real, and the characters should be reproduced when translating the dialogue accordingly. It is emphasized that the functional equivalence theory of the receptive readers' response to the reception language and the source language readers' response to the source language can effectively guide the fictional dialogue translation with the function of portraying the characters. So that the target language readers' perception of the character image conveyed by the character dialogue in the translation is generally consistent with the source language reader's response to the character image reflected by the character dialogue in the source text. Through the analysis, it is found that the processing of the dialogue in the translation reproduces the character image of the dialogue, which can make the target language reader feel the similar role image as the source language reader, which matches the "reader reflection theory" of the functional equivalence theory. It verifies the rationality and maneuverability of using functional equivalence method to guide novel dialogue translation, and provides a theoretical basis for novel dialogue translation and its translation analysis.
