【摘要】：接受美学是上世纪60年代末兴起的文学理论,其代表人物是联邦德国的文艺理论家姚斯、伊瑟尔和伽达默尔。在接受美学诞生之前,占主导地位的文学研究方法是以作者为中心和以文本为中心,读者在文学接受过程中的地位则长期受到忽视。而接受美学认为,美学研究应重点关注读者对作品的接受、反应和审美经验在文学研究中的作用,这便使文学批评的中心由作品和作者转向了读者。翻译作为一种特殊的文学活动,其核心人物译者在翻译过程中也同样应将读者的接受能力作为选择翻译策略和方法的重要考量,从而确保译文的接受效果。《红楼梦》是清代作家曹雪芹的代表作,该作品被誉为中国封建社会的百科全书。霍克斯于上世纪80年代完成了《红楼梦》的第一个英文全译本,从此西方读者便有机会接触到此书中所包含的优秀的中国传统文化与思想。而作为文化交流的重要因素之一的文化负载词,便成了翻译的重点与难点。本文运用接受美学理论对霍译本中社会文化负载词的翻译进行研究,以求从读者接受的视角,对影响译者选择翻译策略的主客观因素进行分析。本文总共分为六个部分:引言,文献综述,理论基础,《红楼梦》中文化负载词的研究,从接受美学理论视角来看《红楼梦》中社会文化负载词的翻译,最后是结论。通过本课题的研究,作者发现,霍克斯在遇到文化差异所造成的“空白”时,侧重考虑的是目的语读者的“期待视野”,在迎合读者的文化背景和接受能力的基础上,对原文本进行解读和阐释,从而使目的语读者的视野与原文的视野达到“视域融合”。如译语文化中找不到与原文相对应的表达时,译者便倾向于采用异化的方式加以处理,从而既忠实于原文,又满足甚至拓宽了读者的期待视野。而当译语文化中拥有与原语文化表意相似的表达时,译者则更倾向于采用归化的策略,从而使译文流畅易懂,更能为目的语读者所接受。尽管霍克斯在文化负载词的处理上并不十全十美,但从译文的可读性和艺术审美效果来看,仍不失为佳作。
