《赫索格》：心灵的奥德赛—从现代主义角度解读小说《赫索格》的主题与写作技巧

【摘要】：自出版以来，索尔·贝娄的代表作《赫索格》就被评论界认为是美国文学史上成功的小说之一。小说讲述的是一名迷茫混沌的现代知识分子在五天里的经历。赫索格是贝娄创作的一系列痛苦迷茫的现代知识分子中的第一位，也是最具代表性的一位，在他身上汇集了现代人的诸多特点。《赫索格》的艺术成就在于其对众多的现代主义创作技巧的灵活运用。贝娄的创作目的之一在于揭示主人公混乱复杂的内心世界，为了达到这一目的，作者在小说中大量使用了意识流技巧，如内心独白、视角转换以及时间和空间蒙太奇等。情节对于传统作家而言意义非凡,但在《赫索格》中情节得到了淡化处理，这种情节的淡化或者说是缺失并没有损害到作品内容的完整性和丰富性。通过将过去与现在的混合，贝娄成功地在一部现实时间跨度仅为五天的小说里展现了一个普通人的心理历程，同时也杂糅进了西方社会的历史，文化以及价值观。这不再仅仅是一部关于个体普通人生活经历和心理的小说，更是一部能够反映西方社会文化历史的著作。同时由于主人公特殊的精神状态，他的思想中融入了大量西方社会的政治，经济，文化，甚至宗教的因素，读者由此可管窥西方现代社会的特点。本论文从写作技巧和主题两方面入手分析《赫索格》，总结并论证作品的现代主义特征。在写作技巧方面，，论文主要揭示了意识流技巧在小说中的运用，包括内心独白，视角转换。另一个技巧则是小说的叙述特征---缺少一个统一的情节。本论文从造成赫索格人生悲剧的原因入手分析小说主题，提出造成赫索格悲剧的原因有三：身边人的影响，社会的影响及赫索格自身性格的缺陷。总之，无论从写作技巧来看还是从主题来看，本文认为小说《赫索格》是一部富有现代主义特征的作品。
[Abstract]:Since its publication, So Bellow's masterpiece Herzog is regarded by critics as one of the most successful novels in the history of American literature. The novel is about the experience of a confused modern intellectual in five days. Herzog is Bellow's creation. The first of a series of painfully confused modern intellectuals, Is also the most representative one, in his body has collected the modern people's many characteristics. Herzog's artistic achievement lies in his flexible use of numerous modernist creative techniques. One of Bellow's creative purposes is to reveal the chaotic and complex inner world of the protagonist. The author makes extensive use of stream-of-consciousness techniques in his novels, such as inner monologue, angle shift, time and space montage, etc. The plot is of great significance to traditional writers, but the plot is desalinated in Herzog. This desalination or absence of the plot does not undermine the integrity and richness of the content of the work. By mixing the past with the present, Bellow successfully shows the psychological course of an ordinary person in a novel with a real time span of only five days, and at the same time he mixes with the history of western society. Culture and values. This is no longer just a novel about the life experience and psychology of individual ordinary people, but also a book that reflects the cultural history of western society. At the same time, due to the special mental state of the protagonist, His thoughts incorporate a large number of political, economic, cultural, and even religious factors in western society, and readers can see the characteristics of modern western society. This paper analyzes Herzog from two aspects of writing skills and themes, summarizes and demonstrates the modernist features of the works. In writing skills, the thesis mainly reveals the application of stream of consciousness techniques in novels, including inner monologue. Another technique is the narrative feature of the novel-- the lack of a unified plot. This paper analyzes the theme of Herzog's tragedy from the perspective of the causes of his life tragedy, and points out that there are three reasons for Herzog's tragedy: the influence of the people around him. The influence of society and the defects of Herzog's own character. In a word, from the point of view of writing skills and themes, this paper holds that the novel Herzog is a work with modernist characteristics.
