距离的构建：《亚瑟王朝的康州美国佬》中自由主义理想与社会工业化的对峙

【摘要】：关于《亚瑟王朝的康州美国佬》主要存在两种解读。一种视其为对英国社会的抨击以及对美国理想的赞颂,另一种则视其为对技术进步以及美国帝国主义扩张的批判。然而,少有评论家对小说中通过框架叙事、幽默和讽刺手法所构建的汉克·摩根与亚瑟王朝之间的距离以及读者与汉克·摩根之间的距离进行分析和解读。马克·吐温在小说中通过上述写作技巧进行距离构建,首先引导读者背离托马斯·马洛礼对中世纪社会的浪漫主义描绘,随后引导读者背离汉克·摩根对其自由主义理想的实践。两方面的相继背离将读者从对过去的浪漫主义幻想拉回对19世纪美国社会现实问题的拷问。通过构建汉克·摩根与亚瑟王朝的距离,马克·吐温使读者重新审视美国的自由主义理想。通过构建读者与汉克·摩根的距离,马克·吐温进一步唤起读者对工业社会过速发展的质疑,因其对人性的摧残恰巧违背了美国的自由主义理念。小说后记中叙述者流露出的忧伤之感体现了马克·吐温对美国自由、平等的理想在社会工业化进程中的失落而感到失望。我认为马克·吐温通过创作本部小说,试图唤起人们对19世纪美国社会工业化进程中所存在问题的关注,以防止由于社会过速发展而导致的对自由主义理想的进一步背离。
[Abstract]:There are two main interpretations of the American of Arthur's dynasty in Connecticut. One sees it as an attack on British society and a tribute to American ideals, the other as a critique of technological progress and the expansion of American imperialism. However, few critics analyze and interpret the distance between Hank Morgan and Arthur's dynasty constructed by frame narration, humor and satire, and the distance between readers and Hank Morgan. Mark Twain constructed the distance through the above writing techniques in the novel, which first led the reader to deviate from Thomas Mallory's Romantic portrayal of medieval society. It then leads readers to deviate from Hank Morgan's practice of liberal ideals. The two successive deviations bring readers from the romantic fantasy of the past to the torture of American social reality in the 19th century. By building the distance between Hank Morgan and Arthur's dynasty, Mark Twain revisited the liberal ideals of America. By constructing the distance between readers and Hank Morgan, Mark Twain further aroused readers to question the rapid development of industrial society, because its destruction of human nature happened to be contrary to American liberalism. The sad feeling revealed by the narrator in the postscript reflects Mark Twain's disappointment at the loss of the American ideals of freedom and equality in the process of social industrialization. I think Mark Twain tried to draw attention to the problems in the industrialization of American society in the 19th century by writing this novel in order to prevent the further deviation from the liberal ideals caused by the rapid development of society.
