福斯特两部小说中的“他者”研究

【摘要】：爱德华·摩根·福斯特是作为一个小说家而在英国文学乃至世界文学中占有重要地位的。他与乔伊斯、劳伦斯和吴尔夫齐名，被认为是二十世纪英国最伟大的小说家之一。他也是现实主义向现代主义转型时期的作家，因此他的作品不仅闪现着强烈的人文关怀也充满了现实意义。福斯特关注人与人，人与自然的关系。联结是他一生的追求，也是他寄于给不同背景、不同阶级、不同性别乃至不同国别的人们的期望。《霍华德庄园》和《印度之行》是福斯特最有影响力的两部代表作。本文从“他者”的角度研究这两部作品。通过研究作品中的二元对立关系以及“他者”在文本中的表现，，旨在体现“他者”遭受了哪些不公平对待、我们生活在一个怎样失去平衡的世界，人与人的关系又是多么的脆弱，从而更进一步地探究“他者”形成的根源；更重要的是，挖掘福斯特联结主题及其人文关照和现实意义。本文共五部分，第一章简要介绍福斯特、他的两部代表作品——《霍华德庄园》和《印度之行》，及前人对这两部作品做出的相关研究。除此之外，“他者”是西方文学批评的一个关键词，研究者们从哲学源头和文学批评的角度上都对此做出过概念性阐释，“他者”的哲学起源和发展也会在第一章中涉及。第二章主要从贫穷、女性和自然三个方面分析“他者”在《霍华德庄园》中的体现。第三章进一步挖掘“他者”在《印度之行》中的体现，主要从以下几个方面展开研究：被殖民的印度、印度人、宗教他者和女性他者。鉴于“他者”出现的不同原因，第四章深入探讨为了解决这一现象，福斯特所提出的联结主题，以及文中所蕴含的实现联结的可行性方式。最后一部分是结论多个角度全面阐释“他者”在福斯特这两部作品中的彰显，总结福斯特小说中的人文关照，及研究文学作品中“他者”的指导意义。
[Abstract]:As a novelist, Edward Morgan Foster occupies an important position in English literature and world literature. Along with Joyce, Lawrence and Woolf, he was considered one of the greatest British novelists of the twentieth century. He is also a writer in the period of the transition from realism to modernism, so his works not only flash a strong humanistic concern, but also full of practical significance. Foster is concerned about the relationship between man and nature. Connection is the pursuit of his life and his expectation to people from different backgrounds, different classes, different gender and even different countries. Howard Abbey and the Journey to India are two of Foster's most influential masterpieces. This paper studies these two works from the perspective of the other. By studying the dualistic opposites in the works and the performance of the other in the text, the aim is to show what unfair treatment the other has suffered, and how we live in a world that is out of balance. How fragile the relationship between people is, thus further exploring the source of the formation of the "other"; more importantly, excavating the theme of Forster's connection and its humanistic care and practical significance. There are five parts in this paper. The first chapter briefly introduces Foster, his two representative works, Howard Manor and the Journey to India, and the related studies made by his predecessors on these two works. In addition, the "other" is a key word in western literary criticism, which has been conceptualized from the point of philosophical origin and literary criticism, and the origin and development of the "other" philosophy will also be covered in the first chapter. The second chapter mainly analyzes the embodiment of the other in Howard Manor from three aspects of poverty, women and nature. The third chapter further explores the embodiment of the "other" in the Journey to India, mainly from the following aspects: the colonized India, Indians, other religions and other women. In view of the different reasons of "the other", the fourth chapter deeply discusses the connection theme proposed by Foster in order to solve this phenomenon, and the feasible way to realize the connection contained in the paper. The last part is the conclusion of comprehensive explanation of the "other" in the two works of Foster, summed up the humanistic concerns in Foster's novels, and the guiding significance of the study of the "other" in literary works.
