《俄亥俄,温斯堡》的叙事空间研究

【摘要】:在信仰动摇、情感转变的20世纪20年代的美国,一群来自相对闭塞、以农业为主的中西部的作家跃上文坛,形成了美国文学史上一道独特的风景。其中俄亥俄州的舍伍德·安德森及其代表作《俄亥俄,温斯堡》格外引人注目,温斯堡小城也因其真实、生动而具体的形象成为世界文学地图上不可忽视的一部分。随着空间理论日渐兴起,在对各思想艺术领域产生重大影响的同时,也为文学研究提供了一个新的视角。根据《俄亥俄,温斯堡》的具体特点,将其叙事空间划分为“地志空间”、“社会空间”以及“空间形式”三个层面。 首先,从地志空间来说,空间作为“行为的地点”,立体呈现出了温斯堡小城的图景,它处于都市与乡村的结合部,既是城乡社会经济生活方式的交汇点,亦是社会文化转型时期各种冲突、矛盾力量的碰撞点;作为“行动着的地点”,空间不仅是时间的标识物,寓含着时间的感知与流逝,空间本身也成为主题化的描写对象,见证、记录、讲述着工业浪潮入侵之下小城面貌的变迁和小城人的故事。 其次,社会空间方面,安德森着重塑造了自然空间和城市空间,从而展开对人与自然、人与社会、人与人之间关系问题的探讨。自然空间是小城畸人孤独心灵的慰藉,却渐渐远离他们的生活;城市空间是静默的,一方面教堂等公共空间预示着整个社会所遭遇的转型危机,另一方面,通过对私人空间的隐喻性描绘,揭示了畸人内心世界的孤独,他们固守传统与自我,保持着可贵的纯真与质朴。 最后,空间形式是对小说空间艺术的探讨。对主人公生命历程中独具意味的一个或多个片断加以场景化的表现,再现了生活的律动,透视了人生的真相。安德森还采用了“主题—并置”的叙事模式,通过各种暗示、象征、联系等的连续参照,意象的空间编织以及主题的统一,将25个故事作为一个整体并置于空间关系之中,从而实现了小说叙事的空间化结构。 综上,《俄亥俄,温斯堡》的叙事空间展现出多重的空间层次与深刻的思想内涵,空间既是小说的意义象征系统,也是小说叙事艺术的重要维度,充分体现了安德森的现代性意识,亦为领会其作品独特的叙事美学效果提供了新的路途。
[Abstract]:In America in the 1920s, when faith wavered and emotion changed, a group of writers from the Midwest, who came from a relatively closed area and dominated by agriculture, leapt to the literary world, forming a unique landscape in the history of American literature. Among them, Sherwood Anderson of Ohio and his masterpiece, Ohio, Winsborough, are particularly remarkable. The small town of Winsborough has become a part of the world literature map because of its real, vivid and concrete image. With the rising of space theory, it not only has a great influence on all fields of thought and art, but also provides a new angle of view for literature research. According to the specific characteristics of Winsborough, Ohio, the narrative space is divided into three levels: "Geography Space", "Social Space" and "Spatial form". First of all, from the perspective of geochronology space, as a "place of behavior", space presents a picture of the small town of Winsborough. It is in the confluence of the city and the countryside, and it is the intersection of the social and economic way of life of urban and rural areas. It is also the collision point of various conflicts and conflicting forces in the period of social and cultural transformation. As a "place of action", space is not only a symbol of time, but also a symbol of time, and space itself becomes a themed object of description. Witness, record, tell the industrial wave invasion of the face of the small town changes and the story of town people. Secondly, in the aspect of social space, Anderson focuses on shaping the natural space and urban space, so as to discuss the relationship between man and nature, between man and society, and between man and man. The natural space is the solace of the lonely heart of the strange people in small cities, but gradually far away from their lives. The urban space is silent. On the one hand, the public space such as churches is a sign of the crisis of transformation in the whole society, on the other hand, Through the metaphorical depiction of private space, this paper reveals the loneliness of the inner world of the grotesque people, who cling to tradition and self, and keep their precious innocence and simplicity. Finally, the space form is to the novel space art discussion. The scene expression of one or more fragments in the protagonist's life course reproduces the rhythm of life and perspective the truth of life. Anderson also uses the "theme-juxtaposition" narrative model, using successive references to cues, symbols, connections, etc., the spatial weaving of images, and the unity of themes, to put 25 stories as a whole and into spatial relationships. Thus realized the novel narrative space structure. In summary, the narrative space of "Ohio, Winsborough" shows many layers of space and profound ideological connotation. Space is not only the symbolic system of the meaning of the novel, but also the important dimension of the narrative art of the novel. It fully embodies Anderson's consciousness of modernity and provides a new way to understand the unique aesthetic effect of his works.
