论V.S.奈保尔作品中的印度“混杂人”形象

【摘要】：奈保尔特殊的生活经历,使他受到了“混杂”文化的影响,具有多重的文化身份。无法弃绝的特立尼达情结,家族赐予他的印度血统,在宗主国学习、工作和生活的经历,让他在多重文化身份之间游走,所以他被许多学者称为“特立尼达的印度人”、“印度的海外浪子”、“英国的特立尼达人”、“无根的作家”、“世界作家”等等。奈保尔的作品中塑造了大量的印度“混杂人”形象,本文根据奈保尔作品中涉及到的地理空间作为分类标准,分别研究了特立尼达的印度“混杂人”形象和西方世界中的印度“混杂人”形象,并且分析了他们的物质生活状况和精神生活状况。同时以奈保尔的印度三部曲为文本,探究这些印度“混杂人”与印度之间的联系。本篇论文分为三章来研究奈保尔作品中的印度“混杂人”形象,运用文本细读的研究方法,并且参照了萨义德、霍米·巴巴、斯皮瓦克等后殖民理论家的理论展开研究。第一章,以奈保尔的出生地特立尼达为背景,将他的短篇小说集《米格尔街》作为文本,分析了西印度群岛上的印度“混杂人”形象。他们与岛上其他“混杂人”一样处于物质生活和精神生活上的边缘境地,他们对于母国文化逐渐遗忘,同时不断受到外来文化和其他种族文化的侵袭,无论他们如何挣扎,这部分印度“混杂人”的生活都是悲剧的。将《灵异推拿师》中的甘涅沙作为典型人物形象进行分析,并且运用霍米·巴巴的杂交理论来分析这个把东西方文化混合成功的印度“混杂人”形象。第二章,以奈保尔的小说《孤独的人》、《告诉我,杀了谁》和《抵达之谜》为文本进行分析,深入的研究了流落到西方世界的印度“混杂人”的生存状况。《孤独的人》中的主人公桑什托是从孟买跟随雇主来到美国的,当母国文化和异国文化在他内心相互碰撞时,他在这种文化差异的断层中迷失了自己,精神上的疏离感与矛盾感让他们失去了真正的“自由”。《抵达之谜》是奈保尔的自传体小说,小说中的主人公与作者本人的生活经历相似。小说中的主人公,因为在英国生活和工作,逐渐的接受了西方文明和宗主国的文化。对他而言,宗主国的文化是他的文化源泉,是他的文化养母,所以他对于殖民者持有一种和解的态度,尽管内心之中仍然无法摆脱作为“外来人”的疏离感。第三章,主要是跟随作者本人造访印度,以奈保尔的印度三部曲为文本进行分析,探究这些印度“混杂人”包括作者本人与印度本土的联系,他们虽然离开了印度或者从未踏上印度,母国的血统使他们对于故土既想亲近又不得不疏离。特立尼达上的印度“混杂人”无论是从生活习惯上还是宗教等方面都想要保留印度的传统,然而他们在这些方面早已经与印度的本土人有所区别。而作者本人,因为受到西方社会的世界观影响,对于自己的母国是既想亲近又不得不疏离。作为印度后裔的他无法否认自己受到的印度影响,却又与印度本土人有了本质上的差别。关于奈保尔的文化身份问题,许多学者已经研究过了,但是他们对其作品中人物形象的混杂性研究不够多,不够系统,也不够详实。在全球化、多元文化发展的今天,我们研究奈保尔作品中的印度“混杂人”形象也是非常具有现实意义的。
