[Abstract]:Virginia Woolf, as an important pioneer of modern feminist literary criticism recognized in the West, dabbles in the issues of female identity and literary creation in many works. In his works, A. S. Byatt, known as "one of the most imaginative and intelligent writers in contemporary Britain," also focuses widely on the perspective of women. Possession: a romance (1990), as the pinnacle of Byatt's literary creation, permeates her profound feminist thoughts and her themes and content. The portrayal of characters and narration are consistent with Woolf. However, as a female writer in the late 20 ~ (th) century and the early 21 ~ (st) century, Byatt also showed the difference from Woolf in these aspects. This paper attempts to compare Woolf's female thoughts in various texts with the female thoughts highlighted by Byatt in possession, and analyzes Byatt's inheritance and development of Woolf from four aspects. First of all, both of them focus on writing the historical dilemma and realistic fate of the marginalization of women in their works, while Byatt focuses on portraying the situation of women in the contemporary English academic circles. Secondly, the two female writers are committed to reconstructing the distorted and alienated female image under the influence of single male perspective and discourse, and to construct a new female image, while Byatt has a breakthrough in Woolf's new image. Thirdly, both of them actively compete for women's right of voice in their works. Compared with Woolf's appeal to female writers, Byatt represents a wider group of women with the images of female characters in his works. Finally, Woolf encourages women to create boldly, and puts forward novel ideas about female creation in some literary theories. Under its guidance, Woolf actively tries and opens up the unique discourse and structure of women. Practice various styles and narrative methods. In possession, Byatt responds to Woolf's idea of "bisexuality" in A Room of his own. At the same time, as a novel that breaks the narrative limitation of traditional novels, "possession" also shows that Byatt echoes Woolf's idea of opening up her own unique discourse and narrative mode about women. Through the detailed analysis of Woolf's many works and possession, this paper further excavates the commonality and continuity of Woolf and Byatt in the aspects of female thought and creation, so as to pursue the memory of the history of female creation.
