[Abstract]:In the 1970s, the "cultural turn" appeared in the western translation theorists, which promoted the study of translation from the linguistic level to the cultural level, from the study of the source language to the study of the target language. The translator's role is becoming more and more prominent, his marginalization has been improved gradually, and the translator's subjectivity has become a new perspective in translation studies. Emma is the most mature novel of British female writer Jane Austen both in thought and art. Since the 1940s, there have been many versions of Emma in China, the most representative of which are the versions of Liu Chongde in the Republic of China and Sun Zhili in the 1990s. Previous studies on different versions of Emma have focused on the comparative analysis of translation strategies of different versions from a linguistic point of view, but the systematic study of the constraints on subjectivity has been somewhat inadequate. Based on the relevant theories of translator's subjectivity, this paper compares the two versions from the perspectives of selection, language and culture, analyzes the differences of the translator's subjectivity, probes into the factors restricting the translator's subjectivity in the two versions, and points out the social ideology. The translator's translation thought and the reader's horizon of expectation have an important influence on the difference of the translator's subjectivity. In the foreword, the purpose and significance of the research are described. Chapter two is a literature review, which mainly discusses the study of translator subjectivity by Chinese and Western scholars, as well as the study of Emma and her translation at home and abroad. Chapter three analyzes the different understandings of the translator's subjectivity, discusses the connotation and characteristics of the translator's subjectivity, and points out that the translator's subjectivity means that the translator, as the subject of translation, respects the source text, the original author and the target language reader. At the same time, it is inevitably influenced by internal and external factors while exerting subjective initiative for the purpose of translation. Chapter four makes a comparative study of the two Chinese versions of Emma and analyzes in detail the three features of the translator's subjectivity in the process of translation, such as the translator's choice of the translation and the mode of expression, which reflects the translator's subjective initiative. Translators adopt different translation strategies according to their respective aims to reflect their selfishness, while the translators are influenced by ideology and personal factors to reflect their movability. The conclusion of the article summarizes the article. By comparing the translation of Emma, this paper reveals that although the translator is restricted by various conditions, he can still exert his initiative actively. In literary translation, translators and works should be viewed historically, and the ideology, the translator's own factors and the readers' expectation should be considered in order to achieve the purpose of cultural exchange.
