[Abstract]:W.H. Oden (1907-1973) is an outstanding representative of American and English modernist poets in the 20 ~ (th) century. His poems often involve anxiety about contemporary social and personal problems. This thesis takes the reception aesthetics of Ethel and Yao as the theoretical framework to expound the readers' anxiety in the reading activities of Oden's poems. The preface includes a brief introduction to Orden, literature review and an overview of reception aesthetics. The middle part is the main body of the thesis, including three chapters. It explores the anxiety in Oden's poetry from three aspects: the blank of poetry text, the perspective of readers' expectation and the influence of readers on Oden's creation. The third part is the conclusion, summarizes the full text. The first chapter is based on Ethel's "blank" theory to explore the possibility that readers can perceive the anxiety in Oden's poetry. First of all, the semantic blanks in Oden's poems are analyzed from the perspective of linguistic rhetoric, which shows that readers can use metaphor and metonymy to examine the words in poetry. Secondly, the emotion blank of the text from the artistic conception, the combination of emotion and scene, the combination of the reality and the reality enable the reader to perceive the anxiety of Oden's social depression and the lack of trust in the love of men and women. Thirdly, the details of the narrative of poetry leave more imagination space for readers, so that readers can understand the anxiety of Oden about the lack of social identity. The second chapter analyzes the dynamic perception of Oden's anxiety process from the perspective of expectation. First of all, the reader's "horizon of expectation" determines the reader's interpretation of the meaning of the work. With the improvement of cognitive structure and the enrichment of life experience, readers have a deeper understanding of the depressed emotions brought about by the poetic description of the decline of the country. Secondly, the reader's "horizon of expectation" is related to the visual field of the text, which resonates with each other, and the reader can fully perceive the poet's anxiety about social corruption and hopelessness of love. The third chapter expounds the readers'influence on Oden's expression of anxiety. First of all, it analyzes the influence of readers' reading psychology on Orden's creation. The reader's eagerness to know the truth prompts Oden to highlight social problems through dramatic dialogue and repeated sentence patterns, while avoiding the reader's reading fatigue. Secondly, it explains the influence of reader's reaction on Oden's poetic style. Because the reader could not perceive the anxiety in the text through the obscure language in Oden's early poetry, the poetic style of Oden gradually changed from obscurity to clarity in the process of writing, and the earlier poems were deleted in the later period. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the anxiety in Oden's poems from the readers' reading activities, to change the critical method of neglecting the reader's participation in the interpretation of the meaning of the text in the past studies of Oden's works, and to emphasize on the reader, the text, and the text. The author as well as the social environment and other literary elements, based on the reader's interpretation, to further highlight the social function of the work. The difference of readers leads to different expectations. The degree of interaction between readers and the poet Orden and his poetic texts determines their understanding of anxiety in Oden's poems. The anxiety in Oden's poems is not only a personal experience, but also a wake-up call to the society.
