【摘要】：“父与子”文化母题是犹太文化的独特内容及重要内容，“父子之争”深刻体现在犹太文化根源和历史经验上。随着美国犹太文学的兴起，“父与子”自然成为了作家创作必不可少的内容和主题。亨利·罗斯的名作《就说是睡着了》是反映犹太文化及“父与子”主题的典型作品，但又以其鲜明的特点异于传统的父子关系。论文结合犹太民族“父子之争”的文化根源和历史经验，以及第一、第二代美国犹太移民艰难的生存状况这一社会背景，深刻分析《就说是睡着了》中的“父与子”主题及其所折射出的普遍社会意义。 论文共有四章，第一章为作家及作品，文献综述，研究意义及论文结构介绍；第二章研究了“父与子”母题产生的文化及历史根源，及其在美国犹太文学中的表现形式及作者的创作动机；第三章探讨了作品中“父与子”在美国新大陆的冲突、挣扎、及重生。其中，冲突包括权威和反权威的冲突，传统和同化的冲突，，挣扎分别包含了父子为生存而挣扎，为身份而挣扎，展现了犹太移民复杂矛盾的精神世界和艰难的移民生活。重生是小说有别于其他的最突出特点，表现在“父与子”没有像其他小说中的父子陷入了一种永无止境的对抗，而是通过父子特别是儿子戴维的自我牺牲达成了和解。第四章总结了论文的主要内容、结论，并提出了论文在研究中存在的不足之处及今后研究的建议。
