文化空白和杨译本《红楼梦》分析

【摘要】：“翻译不仅是双语言活动，而且同时是双文化活动。”由于社会和自然的因素，每个国家的文化各有其独特的特点。因此，，在翻译的过程中，一些对原语的读者来说显而易见的文化内容，对于译入语读者来说，却是难于理解，极易在译入语中形成文化上的空白。俄国翻译理论家I．Q．索罗金在研究文化极其国别特点时，提出了文化空白理论。它对于文化的交流有重要的影响。因此，对于我们来说，探究在翻译过程中用什么样的可行方法来弥补这种文化上的空白，对于翻译理论与实践具有十分重要的意义。《红楼梦》是中国古典文学名著，是中国文化的百科全书。本文以杨宪益及其夫人戴乃迭这对译坛伉俪的英译本《红搂梦》The Dream of Red Mansion为研究对象，在尤金·奈达、彼得·纽马克、劳伦斯·韦努蒂、克里斯蒂安·诺德、钱钟书、傅雷等学者翻译理论的基础上，提出了十种弥补文化空白的策略：直译法、文化对等法、增益法、文化省略法、文化解释法、加注法、概念泛化法、视点转换法、音译法以及上述方法的综合运用。并以大量的事例，从科举制度、官职名称、佛教、传统习惯、历史典故等方面对杨译本 The Dream of Red Mansion中对文化空白的翻译方法进行了全面的分析，并对其中的暇疵，提出了一些尝试性的译法。本文最后指出，弥补文化空白的翻译方法不是一成不变的。随着世界文化交流的进一步扩大，地球村的观念深入人心。通过作为中外文化交流的使者的翻译工作者的共同努力，一定能够找到更为有效的翻译方法，弥补文化空白对文化交流的负面影响，来增进民族间的了解，促进世界文化的交流与发展。

Therefore, in the process of translation, some cultural content is obvious to the readers of the source language. For the target readers, it is difficult to understand, and it is easy to form a cultural gap in the target language. Russian translation theorist I. Q. Sorokin put forward the theory of literary blankness in his study of culture and its national characteristics. It has an important influence on the communication of culture. So, for us, Explore the possible ways to make up for the cultural blankness in the translation process. A Dream of Red Mansions is a masterpiece of Chinese classical literature and an encyclopedia of Chinese culture. This paper takes Yang Xianyi and his wife Dai Nadii as the subjects of study on the English translation of "Red Dream" by Yang Xianyi and his wife, Dai Nadi. In Eugene Nida, Peter Newmark, Lawrence Wenuti, Christian Nord, Qian Zhongshu, On the basis of the translation theory of Fu Lei and other scholars, this paper puts forward ten strategies to fill the cultural gap: literal translation, Cultural equivalence, gain, cultural ellipsis, cultural interpretation, annotation, conceptual generalization, Point-to-point conversion, transliteration and the comprehensive application of the above methods. And with a large number of examples, from the imperial examination system, official names, Buddhism, traditional habits, This paper makes a comprehensive analysis of the translation methods of cultural blanks in Yang's translation The Dream of Red Mansion, including historical allusions. Some tentative translation methods are put forward for the defects. Finally, it is pointed out that the translation method to fill the cultural gap is not fixed. With the further expansion of cultural exchanges in the world, the concept of the global village is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Through the joint efforts of translators who act as ambassadors for cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, It is certain that more effective translation methods can be found to remedy the negative impact of cultural gaps on cultural exchanges. To enhance the understanding between the people, to promote the exchange and development of world culture.
