《名利场》是英国十九世纪批判现实主义作家威廉·梅克匹斯·萨克雷的代表作及成名作。作为西方经典小说之一,《名利场》的中文全译本在近些年达到二十本多本。其中,杨必的译本得到中国文学翻译界的一致赞赏与重视,也得到读者的广泛肯定和好评。翻译家及学者针对该译本进行了多方位研究。本文通过研究中西方有代表性的翻译理论来归纳适用于文学翻译的翻译标准,并在此基础上比较《名利场》的两个不同译本,从而挖掘出杨必译本受到普遍认可和欢迎的要素。严复的“信、达、雅”,傅雷的“传神”论及钱钟书的“化境”说是中国当代翻译理论的典型代表,他们的观点对中国翻译界产生了深远影响。亚历山大·弗雷泽·泰特勒的翻译三原则,尤金·奈达的对等翻译理论和彼得·纽马克的语义翻译和交际翻译理论也在西方翻译界占据重要地位。这些翻译理论中有些自产生之初便与文学翻译紧密相联,有些经后人引申或从不同视角应用,也适用于文学翻译。本文通过分析与归纳,总结出这些翻译理论中关于文学翻译标准的共通之处为译本比较做铺垫,并进一步探索优秀译本所采用的翻译技巧,以期为优秀文学翻译产生的原因提供一些启示。
