【摘要】：纳撒尼尔·霍桑(1804—1864)是19世纪中后期美国浪漫主义作家的杰出代表,是美国文学史上最伟大的小说家之一,其深遂的思想和高超的写作技巧在英美乃至世上界文坛上一直享有盛名。《红字》是霍桑的长篇代表作,也是他的第一部长篇小说,集中表现了作者的思想意识和艺术特色。它既是霍桑最优秀的作品,也是那个时代美国人的骄傲。这部作品自问世以来,已被译成多种语言,并被改编成戏剧和影视作品,受到了众多评论者和读者的极大关注。霍桑对世界文学的影响极其重大,一是象征手法在小说创作中的巧妙运用；二是对人物在精神和道德上的失常的心理分析。他的小说在思想内容和艺术手法上都独具一格。无论文坛风云如何变幻,一生颇具传奇色彩的霍桑及其文章始终是人们品评的焦点。评论者从不同的角度及层面对霍桑及其作品进行了研究评论,但是众位评论家对《红字》都一致给予了最高评价。近年来,国内外学术界均有撰文探讨《红字》中的象征意义,但是要透过表层去探寻更深层的意义,并不是一件简单的事情,这会涉及到很多学科和理论问题。本人和《红字》这部小说非常有缘,于是也冒险选择了它作为毕业论文的设计课题。在《红字》中霍桑娴熟的运用了象征手法,用“A”字把四个相互牵制的主要人物巧妙地编织在一起,使故事情节充满神秘色彩,丰富了作品的思想内涵,增加了小说的艺术魅力,给读者留下了无限的想象空间,令人回味无穷。本文以对《红字》的象征意义的探究为切入点,着重探讨象征手法在《红字》中的表现、作用以及特点。从浪漫主义和心理分析的角度,详细解析了作品中的象征意义、作用及《红字》所独有的象征风格,从不同的侧面暗示了《红字》的主题。本文是由引言、主体以及结语三大部分构成。引言部分介绍了霍桑及其作品《红字》,并简单解释了象征的含义以及作用。主体部分分三章,第一章从现代人的浪漫的角度分析了红色字母A随着故事情节的发展而具有的不同象征意义——最初代表了“通奸罪”,后来演变成“能干,天使”和英勇善战的“女战士”；第二章详细解读了四个主要人物形象所暗含的象征意义,他们分别是海斯特·白兰,亚瑟·丁梅斯代尔,罗杰·奇灵渥斯和珠儿；第三章对作品中主要人物的命名所包含的象征意义进行了具体细致地分析,他们分别是Hester Prynne, Arthhur Dimmesdale, Roger Chillingworth, Pear。本文的结语部分在总结全文的基础上进一步得出：《红字》的成功最大得益于象征手法地巧妙运用和作者高超地驾驭能力,霍桑丰富而独特的象征手法,开启了象征小说成为一个独立文学品种的先河。使霍桑成为现代象征主义文学的开创者之一,也使《红字》成为美国第一部跨国界,赢得世界声誉的文学巨著。还总结了《红字》中红色字母A、主要人物形象、主要人物名字的象征意义,象征在这部作品中的作用以及象征的多义性、系统性和隐晦性的特点,以及霍桑的象征对后代作家作品的影响。最后也指出霍桑因为自身的一些局限性使他把解决问题的办法寄托于宗教,甚至认为原罪具有普遍性,但无论如何,霍桑高超的艺术手法—象征—是值得我们探讨和研究的。
[Abstract]:Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804 - 1864) is an outstanding representative of American romantic writers in the middle and late nineteenth Century. It is one of the greatest novelists in the history of American literature. His profound thought and superb writing skills have always been famous in Britain and America and the world of the world.
"Red letter" is Hawthorne's long representative work and his first novel, which concentrates on the author's ideological and artistic features. It is both the best works of Hawthorne and the pride of the Americans of that time. This work has been translated into many languages and has been adapted into drama and film and television since the world. The great concern of commentators and readers.
Hawthorne's influence on world literature is extremely important, one is the ingenious use of symbolism in the creation of novels; two is the psychological analysis of the mental and moral aberrations of the characters. His novels are unique in the ideological content and artistic techniques. No matter how the literary world is changing, the legendary Hawthorne and his article in his life In the end, the critics are the focus of the commentators. Critics have studied Hawthorne and his works from different angles and layers, but many critics have given the highest evaluation to the red letter.
