《女勇士》中的文化误读及其原因探析
[Abstract]:As an outstanding representative of Chinese American literary writers, Kingston Kingston 1940- has always occupied a pivotal position in the increasingly abundant Chinese American literature. Her works have won numerous awards, including the National Book Award and the National Book Review Award. Former US President Bill Clinton's "National Medal of Humanities" (The Woman Warrior1976), the famous Hong Kong Pavilion, has become famous in contemporary American literature for its unique narrative perspective, rich cultural images and strange stories and legends. Because the works are rich in Chinese culture, the content of western culture is relatively small, which has aroused the great interest of Chinese and Western readers and aroused strong controversy among Chinese American literary circles and critics. Many readers and critics of Maxine Hong Kong have a very different attitude towards the woman Warrior: one is that the story in Kingston's works is regarded as far away from the reality of the United States, mainly by American critics and American readers. The story of "Chinese (alien) culture"; The other is that Chinese-American writers, led by Chiu Chien-hsiu, believe that Kingston's Chinese story completely deviates from the original and has been assimilated by white people, misreading and misusing Chinese classics in his works, and pandering to white readers. Although these views have been denied, more scholars believe that the Chinese story in Kingston's works is deliberately constructed to express his own cultural value orientation and self-positioning. In essence, the focus of the debate is nothing more than Kingston's personal attitude towards traditional Chinese culture. Due to the unique depth and breadth of the theme of the works, Chinese and Western scholars excavated it from the perspectives of deconstruction, feminism, Orientalism, postmodernism and so on. From the perspective of cultural misreading, this paper will analyze and summarize the typical examples of cultural misreading in the works by means of careful reading and comparison of texts. This paper probes into the author's attitude towards Chinese traditional culture and analyzes the subjective and objective reasons for the author's misreading of Chinese classic stories. Objective evaluation of the significance of Maxine Kingston's cultural misreading: due to the author's special identity and his multicultural environment, Kingston intentionally rewrites the classical Chinese story on the one hand, which is a strong criticism of the feudal vestige in Chinese traditional culture. On the other hand, the new women trying to construct the new women have positive significance to the integration of the world culture while inheriting and carrying forward the Chinese traditional culture.
