[Abstract]:As the first black woman writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, Tony Morrison (1931-) always focused on the history and present situation of his own nation and drew rich nutrition from African black culture. While expressing and exploring the themes of the existence and destiny of African-American people, the beautiful, powerful and poetic language in his works has attracted extensive attention of the academic community and been recognized by the world. Song of Solomon is Tony Morrison's third novel and the only one in which black men are the protagonists. The novel established her position in American fiction and made her one of the greatest contemporary American writers. This paper first makes a comprehensive analysis of the three main male characters in the works and points out that they are typical representatives of three different types of African-American. Combined with the author's personal life experience and the background of the novel, this paper tries to analyze and study the deep reasons why Morrison molded the three male characters from two aspects. McCann Dade II was an admirer of material wealth, believing that it would help him get what he wanted without caring for his family or others around him. At the same time, he imitated the white man in every way, and had a white heart. He is the white representative of the black middle class. Milkboy, who grew up in a wealthy black family, is in many ways like his father McCann. Until he was 32, he lived a life of boredom and aimlessness. After a trip to the South, he was transformed from a selfish and white assimilated black male into a black heritage successor, physically and mentally matured. He was a black youth representative seeking the roots of African-American culture. The guitar comes from the poor black underclass. The tragic experiences of childhood filled him with hatred towards white people and used extreme violence to retaliate against them. He is the representative of the extreme black racists. By depicting three male characters, Morrison shows that in white American society, three different types of African-Americans seek to free themselves from racial discrimination and oppression. The middle class represented by McCann chose the way of assimilation, blindly integrated into the mainstream society of the United States, and abandoned the black cultural heritage in this process. As a result, it was not only not accepted by white people, but also alienated from its own black ethnic group. The lower-class blacks, represented by the guitar, have turned to violence against the whole white society in order to free themselves from the oppression of the racists, which has also proved to be a dead end. Morrison clearly disagrees with both extremes. Morrison advocated the return of Niwa to black culture to overcome racism in order to truly achieve equal status with whites. According to Milwaugh Morrison, African Americans can survive in American racist society only if they return to traditional black culture. As the protagonist, Niwa's growth can not be separated from the guidance of black women, represented by his aunt Pratt and another old black woman, Seth. As spiritual mentors, they played an important role in the growth of milk babies. By depicting the two women, Morrison highlights the power of women in black relationships.
