从冲突到融合—《小岛》中的身份认同研究

【摘要】：安德烈娅·利维(Andrea Levy,1956-)是英国当前最为著名的牙买加裔女作家。利维作为第二代牙买加裔英国移民,具有特殊的混合文化身份。在其代表作《小岛》(Small Island,2004)中,利维运用多重叙事方式和幽默的语言技巧,通过叙述一对牙买加黑人移民夫妇(吉尔伯特和霍藤丝)和一对伦敦中产阶级白人夫妇(伯纳德和奎妮)的生活轨迹,重现了二战中和战后牙买加裔移民在英国所遭受的歧视和自身身份的幻灭与重生过程。同时,利维在写作中也并没有忽视英国本土人民在二战后的艰苦与困惑。在这部小说中,利维着重描述了白人和黑人在战后的身份认同危机与重建历程,这也是利维对自己家族历史的回忆和重新书写。这其中,有艰辛,有妥协,更有希望。根据《小岛》的主旨,本论文主要运用同为牙买加裔的英国文化批评家斯图亚特·霍尔(Stuart Hall,1932-2014)的身份认同理论,从民族、种族、阶级三个方面分析《小岛》这部小说中具有不同文化身份者之间的歧视、对立与融合问题。从四位主人公的个人经历,管窥现代世界中前殖民地与“母国”、黑人与白人、社会下层与上层阶级之间的复杂关系。论文以小说结尾处黑白混血婴儿的诞生为象征,揭示了从文化对立到妥协,再到身份混合这一漫长过程。从找寻身份认同原因的残酷、过程的挣扎到结果的建立,这部小说所要强调的是：身份认同即使再难,也定有达成的希望,因为这是现代生活的唯一出路。这也使得《小岛》具备了既现实又积极的历史意义,为身份认同勾画了一条从冲突到融合的曲折路线。
[Abstract]:Andreea Levy (Andrea Levy,1956-) is the most famous Jamaican woman writer in Britain. Levy, a second-generation Jamaican English immigrant, has a special mixed cultural identity. In his masterpiece, Small Island,2004, Levy uses multiple narratives and humorous language skills. By describing the path of life of a black immigrant couple from Jamaica (Gilbert and Hoto) and a white couple from the middle class in London (Bernard and Queenie), It recreates the discrimination and disillusionment and rebirth of Jamaican immigrants in England during and after World War II. At the same time, Levy did not ignore the hardship and confusion of British native people after World War II. In this novel, Levy focuses on describing the identity crisis and reconstruction of white and black people after the war, which is also Levy's recollection and rewriting of his family history. Among them, there are hardships, compromises, and more hope. According to the theme of the Island, this thesis mainly applies the identity theory of British cultural critic Stuart Hall,1932-2014, who is also Jamaican. Three aspects of class analysis of the novel "Island" with different cultural identity between the discrimination, opposition and integration. From the personal experience of the four protagonists, this paper explores the complex relations between the pre-colonial and "home country", black and white, and the lower and upper classes in the modern world. The paper symbolizes the birth of a black and white hybrid baby at the end of the novel, revealing the long process from cultural opposition to compromise and then to identity mixing. From the cruelty of finding the cause of identity, the struggle of the process to the establishment of the result, what this novel should emphasize is that even though it is difficult, there must be hope of achieving identity, because this is the only way out of modern life. This also makes the Island have both realistic and positive historical significance, and draw a tortuous route from conflict to integration for identity.
