后印象主义绘画因素下《海浪》的主题分析

【摘要】:作为英国二十世纪现代小说的先驱以及布卢姆斯伯里集团的重要一员,弗吉尼亚?伍尔夫的文学创作深受绘画艺术的影响。后印象派绘画元素在伍尔夫的代表作《海浪》中得到了充分地体现。她在作品中将绘画艺术与小说创作相结合获得的整体的审美效果,进一步深化了小说的生命,时间和死亡的主题。本论文试图从以高更为主要代表的后印象派绘画元素的角度解读小说《海浪》,以丰富弗吉尼亚?伍尔夫的研究领域。论文分为五个部分:引言部分简要介绍了作者弗吉尼亚?伍尔夫的生平和作品,综述了国内外伍尔夫研究现状,指出从绘画角度对其作品的研究还比较不足。第一章论述后印象派绘画对伍尔夫的小说创作形成的影响。首先,小说和绘画有着源远流长的密切关系,而后印象派绘画因素对小说创作则有着深刻的影响。其次,后印象派画家高更逐渐形成自己的艺术创作观,即“综合主义”,强调重拾生命本质,回归心灵的创作理念。再次,以高更为代表的后印象派绘画艺术创作观对伍尔夫有着深刻的影响。在其影响下形成了她自己的小说写作特色:即借鉴绘画,汲取小说创新的源泉,从而开创了小说写作的新局面。而小说《海浪》在运用后印象派的绘画因素的基础上突出了三大主题,生命,时间和死亡。第二章论述高更综合主义下的后印象派绘画理念影响下,《海浪》中的生命主题具体表现为:(1)色彩表达情感的象征性。高更用浓烈的大块的色彩渲染人物形象和意境,不同颜色象征不同含义,注重颜色搭配产生“平面深度”的效果。在《海浪》中,伍尔夫着重刻画一天内不同时间段的海浪的颜色和人物描述景色的颜色,颜色的逐渐变化象征着生命的流逝感。(2)线条象征诗意化的人生轨迹。高更善用简单粗放的线条展现豪放狂野的美,而至简的线条涵盖了深层的感情,《海浪》中伍尔夫用及其简单的情节勾勒出六位主人公的短短的一生,而在这短短一生里的每一个阶段都饱含了诗意化的感情,最终展现诗意化的生命意义。第三章论述高更综合主义下的后印象派绘画理念影响下,《海浪》中的时间主题具体表现为:(1)多焦点透视法的运用。后印象派画家高更打破传统的定点直线透视,采用了多焦点透视法。伍尔夫在《海浪》中也使用到这种新的透视方法,刻画了小说的物理时间和心理时间,物理时间模糊而短暂,心理时间清晰而深刻。每个人的生命时间在心理时间的作用下被切碎成一个个的瞬间,从各个不同的瞬间刻画主人公的性格,瞬间连接起来组成时间的长河。(2)简化原则在小说中的运用。简化意味着把本质的东西从大量无意义的东西中抽取出来的过程。通过对小说叙事时间的简化,伍尔夫将主人公的“意识时间”加以细致的描写,最终揭露出个体生命在时间的无涯里是短暂的有限的。而我们要在这短暂有限的时间内追随自己的心,找到一个纯粹的心灵之岛。第四章论述高更综合主义下的后印象派绘画理念影响下,《海浪》中的死亡主题具体表现为:(1)构图原理的运用。构图原理是在删除多余信息后,将剩余部分组成一个有意义的整体。在《海浪》中,伍尔夫把死亡的具体信息一笔带过,而用大段的描写来刻画死亡的真实感受和面对死亡时的态度,揭露出死亡是不可避免的人类的唯一结果。(2)变形意象的运用。变形就是将艺术的想象虚构加之于自然的形象。《海浪》中的变形意象则是每篇章引子中的海浪。海浪象征着死亡的破坏性力量,同时也代表着重生。海浪循环往复一如人的出生和死亡。懂得了生命的循环才能平静面对死亡,在有限的人的一生,创造出无限的可能。结论部分从整体上总结了《海浪》中的后印象派绘画艺术效果下的三大主题,得出《海浪》是一幅用文字绘出的画卷,并且在生命,时间和死亡的主题上给予了我们启发。伍尔夫成功地将文学与绘画艺术相结合为我们解读其他现代主义作品提出了一种全新的方法和视角。
