[Abstract]:Catherine Mansfield Marry (1888 / 1923) is a great short novelist. Born in a middle-class family in New Zealand, she writes under the pseudonym of Catherine Mansfield, one of her famous short stories and a sister of the Preface. Because the Bay is written later than the Preface, and the plot continues to tell the Bonard family story, many scholars regard the Bay as a continuation of the Preface. And put these two works together to carry on the research. Lacan's three bounds theory was originally used to describe the growth of children from birth to three years old. However, not all children's physical and psychological growth rates are corresponding. Bell, the heroine, is an exception. Although she has grown up as a young girl, an adult, but her psychological age is far behind. At the beginning of the Preface, she behaves roughly the same as a few months-old babies. This was due to social discrimination against middle-class women, depriving her of the opportunity to grow up from reality in her early years. After entering the imaginative world, she had some knowledge of herself. As a result of society's harsh demands on women, she realized part of herself and kept herself in imagination as an adult. When she entered the symbolic world, she began to feel lonely, lost and desperate because she had realized what she was and what desire was. She began to feel pain because she was aware of the unfair treatment of women and felt unable to change the situation. Bell's psychological age is very different from her actual age, and her psychological age is much smaller than her actual age. One of the main reasons is the gender discrimination in the society at that time. The lag of her psychological age is mainly due to the unequal status of men and women in society. It was this gender discrimination that led to a lot of pain in her life, and it was this sexism that led to her abnormal psychological growth. In the past, the study of Preface and Gulf is mainly from three aspects: feminism, theme and narrative skills. In addition, a small number of scholars from the perspective of psychology, based on Jung's theory of personality mask, analyze the main characters in the novel "Preface" and "in the Gulf". This paper also attempts to analyze the heroine Bell in the Preface and in the Gulf on the basis of Lacan's "three bounds Theory" from the point of view of psychology. By analyzing the psychological growth process of the heroine Bell, it is revealed that in some cases, the psychological age of some people is not consistent with the actual age. Their psychological age may be much smaller than their actual age. The main cause of this dislocation of physiological and psychological age is the different experiences and special environment.
