【摘要】：由于夏志清以不同于大陆的书写方式架构《中国现代小说史》,所以自改革开放起,研究者们对此就产生了“众说纷纭”的评论热潮,其中很多文学论题至今依旧具有值得被深入挖掘的价值。论文将主要论评夏志清在小说史中提出的“道德视景”、“感时忧国”和“夏志清鲁迅论”三个命题,试图通过梳理三者所蕴涵的内在含义及呈现特征,找寻其交汇的共通点,进一步阐明夏志清现代小说的批评特色,丰富现代文学批评的内容和观念。论文以“道德视景”、“感时忧国”、“夏志清鲁迅论”三者的交汇点为线索,将全文分为三章:第一章主要对《中国现代小说史》的“道德视景”做出解释和延伸,从而总结夏志清道德批评的特点和启示。首先通过细读文本整理出《中国现代小说史》中有关“道德”的词汇,并找到它们的共同特征。其次,考察夏志清评论作家作品的出发点和研究视角,即喜爱以“道德”为批判依据展开文学批评。最后,将二者结合起来,会发现它们在夏志清的《中国现代小说史》中构成了两种平行的“道德视景”,而且这种“道德视景”是一种兼顾道德批评和审美批评的艺术准则,并不是简单的道德说教。第二章根据夏志清的学术生涯背景,对其提出的“感时忧国”论做出思考和延伸。夏志清认为现代文学的确和过去不一样,也与中国大陆文学的某些方面有很大差别,即体现在作品上的道德感和使命感,也就是那种感时忧国的精神。这种“感时忧国”与“道德视景”实际上是一脉相承的,即中国现代作家要直面所处的时代,不逃避社会问题,不推卸社会责任,这是现代作家应具备的道德责任,也是中国现代文学所特有的性质。同时,夏志清也指出了这一特质给现代小说带来的弊病。第三章以鲁迅评论为例,用比较分析的方法将夏志清鲁迅评论与海内外鲁迅评论进行比较和分析,会发现夏志清在对鲁迅等作家进行评论时,字里行间里透露着浓浓的“道德”和“感时忧国”的意味,这实际是他建构了一种区别于传统意义的“另类”鲁迅形象,为我们重新关照鲁迅提供了另一种视角。正因如此,我们说夏志清创作的《中国现代小说史》不仅对过去一个时代产生了重大影响,其提出的经典命题至今仍启发着当下文学研究者。他宽阔的阅读视野和独特的批评视角在当今跨文化的语境中,依旧发挥着持久而深远的魅力。
