[Abstract]:As we all know, there are a lot of body words idioms in both Chinese and Japanese, which are regarded as the crystallization of the life experience and wisdom of the Chinese and Japanese people. This paper uses the metaphor theory of cognitive linguistics. This paper makes a comparative study on the idioms containing the body word "head" in Chinese and Japanese. On the basis of clarifying the process of meaning generation of each idiom, it also clarifies the cognitive mechanism of the "head" idiom in Chinese and Japanese. The main conclusions are as follows: the idioms containing the word "head" in Japanese are mainly generated by the three mechanisms of metaphor, metonymy and the fusion of implicit metonymy. In contrast, the idioms that contain the word "head" in Chinese, in addition to the above three mechanisms, also exist idioms generated by the mechanism of metonymy. The cognitive characteristics of the idioms containing the word "head" in Chinese and Japanese are as follows: the meaning generation of Chinese idioms mainly depends on the metaphorical mechanism. The formation of the meaning of Japanese idioms mainly depends on metonymy and the fusion of implicit metonymy. Furthermore, the idioms that contain the word "head" in Chinese and Japanese can both express the ability of thinking and the good or bad judgment in meaning. No enemy, no leader, no obstruction, no anger. However, despite these similarities, there are far more idioms in Chinese and Japanese that embody their own personalities. There are more idioms about results and states, and more idioms about attitude, emotion and brain function in Japanese.
