论多元系统理论观照下的清末民初小说翻译

【摘要】： 19世纪末20世纪初,中国社会剧烈动荡。面对列强入侵、民族危亡,知识阶层希望借助小说这种广为大众所接受的文学形式来开启民智,挽救中华民族于水深火热。在梁启超等人的大力倡导下,短短20多年间,数以千计的翻译小说涌入中国,其数量空前,影响巨大,在中国文学翻译史上留下了浓重的一笔。然而与此不相称的是针对这一时期小说翻译的研究尚不充分。与当代翻译文学比较,这个时期的小说翻译从整体上看表现出其独特的特点,如译者对原作随意删改、增添,采用章回体、文言文等翻译外国作品,普遍采用归化手段等。在当时特定的社会文化背景下,大多数译者边译边述,借译文表达自己的抱负与思想,以期用译作警醒世人。这种“译述”策略的流行引起本文作者的研究兴趣。因此,在本文中,作者试图运用以色列学者伊塔玛?埃文-佐哈尔提出的多元系统理论,将小说翻译置于大的社会文化背景之中加以研究,希冀找出“译述”风尚形成的原因,探讨这种风尚及其产品对社会文化产生的影响,从而证明其存在的合理性及其历史必然性。本文共分六章: 第一章引言扼要介绍了本论文的研究主题、研究动机、研究目标、个案选择及基本结构。第二章为文献综述,主要从翻译史及文学翻译两个方面对国内学者就清末民初小说翻译所进行的相关研究作了简要回顾,并认为前人的研究多局限于史料的收集及描述,未对这一时期小说翻译风尚的社会机制和内部变革因素等进行深入全面的研究。第三章对埃文-佐哈尔提出的多元系统理论及其在翻译中的应用进行了回顾。本文作者认为该理论使翻译研究从文本层面上解脱出来,将翻译研究置于大的社会文化背景之中,采用该理论能够更全面、更准确地分析清末民初的小说翻译的因果关系和发生机制,因而,第四章作者主要运用了这一理论工具。第四章与第五章构成本论文的核心部分。在第四章的开篇部分,作者首先对“译述”进行了界定,概括了“译述”的特征。随后,运用多元系统理论,以较大篇幅分析了“译述”风尚形成的原因。作者首先分析了佛经翻译传统对文学翻译的影响,其次探讨了清末民初动荡之中的社会变革及其对意识形态的影响,认为小说翻译的兴盛及“译述”风尚的形成是社会变革的必然选择,最后从社会文化因素、译者因素及目标读者因素等方面进一步分析了该风尚形成的原因。第五章作者分析了“译述”风尚及其产品对意识形态、文学系统和现代作家的深远影响。第六章是结论部分。通过对这一时期小说翻译细致深入的研究,作者发现,翻译文学,尤其是翻译小说在清末民初的社会文化多元系统中占据了不可忽略的位置。由于时代的特殊性,“译述”风尚必然会盛行并对目的语社会文化系统产生影响。因此,文学翻译研究不能忽略这个时期,同时,“译述”风尚及其产品在中国整个20世纪文学翻译中的地位及作用有待进一步研究。
[Abstract]:At the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century , the Chinese society was turbulent . In the face of the strong invasion and the national crisis , the knowledge class wanted to open the people ' s wisdom and save the Chinese nation from the deep fire . Under the strong advocacy of Liang Qichao and other people , thousands of translation novels poured into China . In this paper , the author attempts to use the multi - system theory proposed by Israeli scholar Itama Evin - Zohar to study the translation of novel into a large social and cultural background . Therefore , the author tries to find out the reasons for the formation of the translation and explore the influence of the style and its products on the social culture , thus proving its rationality and its historical inevitability . This article is divided into six chapters : The first chapter introduces the subject , the motivation , the research object , the case selection and the basic structure of the thesis . The second chapter provides a brief review of the relevant researches on the translation of Chinese scholars in the late Qing Dynasty from the perspective of translation history and literary translation , and considers that the research of the former is limited to the collection and description of historical materials , and has not conducted a thorough study on the social mechanism and internal change factors of the translation of the novels in this period . In the third chapter , this paper reviews the multi - system theory and its application in translation . The author thinks that the theory makes translation studies free from the text level , puts the study of translation into a large social and cultural background , and makes use of the theory to more comprehensively and accurately analyze the causal relationship and the occurrence mechanism of the translation of novels in the late Qing Dynasty . Chapter four and chapter five constitute the core part of this thesis . In the opening part of the fourth chapter , the author first analyzes the reasons for the formation of the translation . Then , the author analyzes the influence of translation tradition on literary translation , and then discusses the reasons for the formation of the style of translation from the aspects of social and cultural factors , translator factors and target reader factors . Chapter 6 is the conclusion part . The author finds that translation literature , especially translation novels , occupies an unnegligible position in the multi - element system of social and cultural pluralism at the end of the Qing Dynasty .
