从翻译伦理角度看葛浩文《狼图腾》的英译

【摘要】：翻译作为跨文化交际的桥梁,涉及到各种人际关系和文化关系,需要伦理学的指导。在众多学者中,切斯特曼总结的五种翻译伦理模式影响最为深远,他从再现伦理、服务伦理、交流伦理、基于规范的伦理和专业承诺伦理五个层面提出了对译文和译者的要求,为翻译研究提供了具体的、可操作的伦理模式,对翻译研究具有重要的指导作用。《狼图腾》是中国当代文学中非常优秀的一部作品,内容包涵丰富的中国蒙古族文化。许多学者从操纵、目的论等角度对其英译本进行了探讨和解读,但大部分都是针对译者的删减行为,没有从整体上对其英译本进行全面探讨。因此,从翻译伦理研究这一新视角对《狼图腾》英译本进行全面解读为已有的研究成果增添可研究的创新点。本文拟从翻译伦理角度出发,分析切斯特曼五种翻译伦理模式在《狼图腾》英译本中的体现,研究译者葛浩文遵循的翻译伦理模式,采用的翻译策略和方法,从而提高对翻译活动的认识,促进中西文化的理解和交流。研究发现,切斯特曼的五种伦理模式在译文中均有所体现。对于充满蒙古族文化的语言,葛浩文较多地采用了直译,保留异域文化风情,再现了原文和原作者的写作意图；为了完成出版方编辑提出的翻译要求,葛浩文不得不对原文进行一定的删减,在某种程度上违背了再现伦理；考虑到目标语读者的阅读习惯、兴趣和困难,译者增加了部分内容,省译了一些需要大量文字解释的文化词语,在不影响理解的情况下尽量直译中国的俗语和成语,满足了目标语读者对中国文化的好奇心。葛浩文作为一名专业翻译人员,不遗余力翻译《狼图腾》,遵守职业道德,努力提高自己的翻译技能。由于各伦理模式之间存在一定冲突和重叠,葛浩文在遵循某种伦理模式的情况下进行了选择和协调,使译文具有可读性,实现跨文化交流。
[Abstract]:As a bridge of cross-cultural communication, translation involves a variety of interpersonal and cultural relationships and needs the guidance of ethics. Among many scholars, Chesterman has the most profound influence on the five modes of translation ethics. Service ethics, communication ethics, normative ethics and professional commitment ethics put forward the requirements of translation and translators, which provide specific and operable ethical models for translation studies. Wolf Totem is a very excellent work in Chinese contemporary literature, which contains rich Chinese Mongolian culture. From the perspective of Skopos theory, the English version is discussed and interpreted, but most of it is aimed at the translator's abridged behavior, and it is not comprehensively discussed in the English version as a whole. From the perspective of translation ethics, the author comprehensively interprets the English version of Wolf Totem as an innovative point of innovation for the existing research results. From the perspective of translation ethics, this paper analyzes the embodiment of Chesterman's five translation ethics models in the English version of Wolf Totem, studies the translation ethics model followed by the translator, and studies the translation strategies and methods adopted by the translator. In order to enhance the understanding of translation activities and promote the understanding and communication between Chinese and Western cultures, it is found that Chesterman's five ethical models are reflected in the translation. In order to fulfill the translation request put forward by the editor of the publisher, the author has to delete the original text to some extent, which is contrary to the ethics of reproduction to some extent. Taking into account the reading habits, interests and difficulties of the target language readers, the translator adds some content, saves translation of some cultural words that require a large amount of literal interpretation, and tries to translate Chinese idioms and idioms as directly as possible without affecting their understanding. Satisfying the curiosity of the target language readers about Chinese culture. As a professional translator, GE Haowen spared no effort to translate Wolf Totem and abide by his professional ethics. Since there are some conflicts and overlaps among the ethical models, the author chooses and coordinates the translation to make the translation readable and achieve cross-cultural communication.
