译味深长—谈谈《活着》概念隐喻英译

【摘要】：隐喻最初仅仅被当作一种修辞方式,直到20世纪70年代末,隐喻的认知转向给隐喻研究带来突破；2003年,莱考夫在其著作《我们赖以生存的隐喻》(Metaphors We Live By)中提出并系统阐述概念隐喻(Conceptual Metaphor)。《活着》是中国当代著名先锋派小说家余华的代表作之一。据笔者归纳,小说中有三大概念隐喻系统,即空间方位隐喻、“人是动物”隐喻和一些隐喻化的成语俗语。目前,对于该小说的研究甚多,但从概念隐喻视角研究寥寥无几。因此,本文以概念隐喻为理论基础,以《活着》及其英译本为语料,采用文献研究法、双语语料分析法和定量定性分析法,旨在探讨《活着》中概念隐喻翻译策略。研究发现,译者针对不同类型的概念隐喻的不同特点,采用了不同的翻译策略。针对空间方位概念隐喻,大多采用隐喻到非隐喻的翻译策略；针对“人是动物”隐喻,大多采用保留原文隐喻意象的翻译策略；针对隐喻化的成语,大多采用隐喻到非隐喻的翻译策略；针对隐喻化的俗语,大多采用保留原文意象的翻译策略。希望本文能为《活着》概念隐喻英译研究尽微薄之力。
[Abstract]:Metaphor was only used as a rhetorical device at first, until the end of 1970s, the cognitive transformation of metaphor brought a breakthrough to the study of metaphor. In 2003, Lakoff put forward and systematically expounded the conceptual metaphor "living" in his book "metaphor for our existence" (Metaphors We Live By), which is one of the masterpieces of Yu Hua, a famous contemporary Chinese avant-garde novelist. According to the author's conclusion, there are three conceptual metaphors in the novel, namely, spatial orientation metaphor, "man is an animal" metaphor and some metaphorical idioms. At present, there are many researches on the novel, but few from the perspective of conceptual metaphor. Therefore, based on conceptual metaphor and its English translation, this paper uses literature research, bilingual corpus analysis and quantitative qualitative analysis to explore the translation strategies of conceptual metaphor in "alive". It is found that translators adopt different translation strategies according to the different characteristics of different types of conceptual metaphors. In view of the conceptual metaphor of spatial orientation, the translation strategy of metaphorical to non-metaphorical is mostly adopted, and the translation strategy of preserving the metaphorical image of the original text is mostly adopted for the metaphor of "man is an animal". For metaphoric idioms, metaphorical to non-metaphorical translation strategies are mostly used, and metaphorical idioms are mostly used to preserve the original images. It is hoped that this paper will contribute to the study of the translation of conceptual metaphors into English.
