[Abstract]:Post-colonial translation studies, which began in the late 1980s, are a series of paradigms and applied forms of translation in the context of post-colonial criticism, which combine theoretical research with empirical analysis and complement each other. His research focuses on the inequality between national languages and the power difference between society and national culture, and studies the translation problem in the process of cultural communication from the standpoint of minority and weak culture. It is the core force to dispel cultural hegemony and ethnocentrism. The "hybridity" is the inevitable outcome of language and cultural exchange, which is helpful to preserve the exotic sentiment and highlight the "otherness" of culture. The "Wolf totem" translated by (Howard Goldblatt), an American translator, is characterized by post-colonialism. This paper aims to explore the embodiment of post-colonialism in literary translation by analyzing the translation of Wolf Totem into English. Chapter one gives a detailed review of post-colonialism and post-colonial translation studies. Chapter two first introduces the core concepts of post-colonial translation (power difference and heterogeneity), and then introduces the translation strategies related to the core concepts. Secondly, the author summarizes the specific translation methods of domestication and foreignization. The third chapter analyzes the English translation of Wolf Totem according to the core concepts of post-colonial translation theory, based on the five cultural aspects proposed by Eugene Nida, a famous American translation theorist. It is found that postcolonial translation thoughts and translation strategies are embodied in different aspects. Chapter four is an extension of the previous chapter, which illustrates the role and significance of translation in the post-colonial context of the English version of Wolf Totem. By studying the English translation of Wolf Totem from a post-colonial perspective, this paper finds that the translator's choice of translation strategies is closely related to his translation purpose and specific context, and that alienation and domestication are not antagonistic but dialectical. Or rather moderately heterozygote. Not only does this not cause reading difficulties for the target language readers, but it will help them to broaden their horizons and learn more about exotic cultures. This is also of great benefit to cultural exchanges among different nationalities. Therefore, we believe that in the process of translation, the translator should not only deeply understand the cultural essence of the original work, but also flexibly select translation strategies to avoid dualistic extremism. Strive to promote a genuine and equal dialogue between cultures. The postcolonial translation theory, which emerged in the context of the cultural shift in translation studies, has brought many new dimensions and perspectives to translation criticism. We can see that translation is a dynamic and pluralistic process of cultural communication. An analysis of the English translation of a national literary work from a post-colonial perspective will help to break the linguistic paradigm of translation studies only in the traditional sense, and to elevate the study of translation theory and practice to a new height. It is of positive significance to dispel cultural hegemony, to reveal the cultural identity of the weak nation and to listen to the voice of the "other". At the same time, it also helps to eliminate the natural barrier of cultural exchanges between China and the West, and to carry forward Chinese traditional culture.
