【摘要】：随着中西方文化交流日益频繁,中国武侠文化逐渐向西方传播,武侠小说外译成为必然趋势。然而,武侠小说中丰富的文化内涵给翻译带来了重重困难,目前武侠作品的英译数目极其有限。加强对武侠文学翻译的研究,对于弘扬中国文化有着十分重要的意义。二十世纪八十年代以来,翻译的文化转向成为国际翻译界的一场变革。巴斯奈特明确地将文化的概念引入翻译研究中,提出文学翻译的实质就是文化翻译。本文以文化翻译理论为指导,针对武侠文学最具特色的部分——武侠文化意象的翻译进行了研究。笔者选择John Minford(闵福德)英译的The Deer and the Cauldron为研究对象,采用文献研究,对比研究和数据分析等方法,对译者在英译《鹿鼎记》中武侠文化意象所采取的翻译策略及其在传播过程中的文化亏损进行了系统的评析。本研究从《鹿鼎记》原著及其英译本中筛选出99对武功招式文化意象,57对帮派绰号文化意象,和58对隐语行话文化意象,先对其翻译策略进行判定,并统计出各种策略出现的频数,以判断译者对文化意象翻译策略选择的倾向。在此基础上,对意象翻译中的文化亏损做出判定,并统计出其所占比例并评估文化意象在英译中的亏损度。本文由六部分组成：第一部分介绍了本研究的背景和意义,并对关键术语进行了界定；第二部分对文化转向、文化意象、文化亏损的研究做了系统综述；第三部分陈述了该研究的研究对象、研究问题和所使用的研究方法；第四部分详细阐述了该研究中数据的收集和统计过程,并论证了该研究中所收集数据的效度和信度；第五部分为研究过程,对所得到的的数据进行了分析,针对提出的问题做出了相应的阐释。第六部分得出以下结论： 1.闵福德英译《鹿鼎记》中,对武侠文化意象所采取的翻译策略是多变的,不同的文化意象据其特点采取不同的翻译策略,整体来看,多倾向于异化策略的选择； 2.该译本中武侠文化意象存在不同程度文化亏损,在武功招式文化意象中占33.3%,在帮派绰号文化意象中占26.3%,在隐语行话文化意象中占48%； 3.导致文化亏损的因素是多元的,中西文化差异,原作者金庸创作过程中的有意省略,译者翻译策略的选择及其跨文化理解能力不足都会导致文化亏损。
