接受美学视角下葛浩文英译《呼兰河传》研究

【摘要】:“二十世纪三十年代的文学洛神”萧红是中国现代女作家中的翘楚,其笔调清新自然,思想深刻,自传体小说《呼兰河传》就是其巅峰之作。这部作品以细腻的笔调描绘了中国东北地区的风土人情以及精神生活状态。著名作家矛盾曾在1974年版本序言中称赞其为“一篇叙事诗,一片多彩的风土画,一串凄婉的歌谣”。这部小说唯一的英译本是由美国著名翻译家葛浩文所译。长期以来,他因翻译中国现代文学屡获大奖,并赢得国际声誉,但其对中国文学的热爱以及翻译之旅的开端却是起源于萧红。从某种程度上来说,英译《呼兰河传》体现了葛浩文早期的翻译特色。接受美学是德国康斯茨坦学派于二十世纪六十年代末提出的一种文艺美学理论,其代表人物是罗伯特·姚斯和沃尔夫冈·伊瑟尔。接受美学最根本的特征是将文学批评理论的焦点从作者和作品转向了读者以及读者和作品的关系。其后十年,接受美学被运用到翻译领域中,推动了翻译学的发展。本论文以接受美学为理论基础,对萧红的《呼兰河传》和葛浩文的英译本进行分析,主要从接受美学的核心概念“期待视野”、“未定点”和“隐含读者”等方面进行阐释,并试图探索影响译文的读者因素以及接受美学如何有助于分析葛浩文英译本。在分析过程中,本论文归纳出葛浩文主要采用的翻译技巧:增译法、省译法和转换法。研究结果表明,译者的期待视野,如双语能力、个人喜好和翻译思想对译本的选择和翻译质量起至关重要的作用,而目的语读者对异域文化的追求使《呼兰河传》被广泛接受。从微观角度来看,葛浩文对定向期待采用了归化策略,对创新期待采用了异化策略。译者充分考虑了目标读者的接受能力和接受水平,将定向期待和创新期待相结合,达到读者与译文视域融合。从未定点的处理上看,为了保持读者的阅读兴趣,译者保留一部分未定点,而考虑到西方读者对中国文化因素接受能力有限,另一部分未定点采取了具体化的策略。萧红《呼兰河传》中的人物意象和自然意象都在译作中得以保留并得以凸显,表明葛浩文时时遵循隐含读者,并进一步说明在翻译中只有遵循原文本的预设结构才能有效地把握并传递原文本的主题。此外,译文充分运用各种翻译技巧,使其既满足了读者的期待视野和审美体验又推动了中国文化的传播。希望本研究对未来《呼兰河传》的英译研究提供相关参考。
[Abstract]:Xiao Hong, the literary god of the literature in 1930s, is one of the leading female writers in China. His style is fresh and natural, and his thoughts are profound. The autobiographical novel "the biography of the Hulan River" is its peak. The novel depicts the local customs and the state of spiritual life in northeast China in a delicate style. The famous writer contradiction praised it in the preface of the 1974 edition. For "A narrative poem, The only English translation of this novel was translated by the famous American translator William Gehor. For a long time, he won many awards for translating Chinese modern literature and won an international reputation. But his love of Chinese literature and the beginning of his translation journey began with Xiao Hong. To some extent, The translation of the Hulan River shows the characteristics of the early translation of Ghaowen. Reception aesthetics is a literary and artistic aesthetic theory put forward by the German Kangstans School in 1960s. The most fundamental characteristic of receptive aesthetics is that the focus of literary criticism has shifted from the author and the work to the reader and the reader to the work. Reception aesthetics has been applied to the field of translation, which has promoted the development of translation studies. Based on the theory of reception aesthetics, this thesis analyzes the English versions of Xiao Hong's "Hulan River Biography" and "GE Haowen". It mainly explains the core concepts of reception aesthetics, such as "horizon of expectation", "undecided point" and "implied reader", etc. The author also tries to explore how the readers' factors affect the target text and how reception aesthetics can contribute to the analysis of the English translation of Gehor. In the course of the analysis, this thesis concludes the translation techniques used by the author: the method of increasing translation. The results show that the translator's horizon of expectation, such as bilingualism, personal preference and translation thoughts, play an important role in the choice of the translation and the quality of the translation. However, the target language readers' pursuit of foreign culture has made "Hulan River Biography" widely accepted. From a microscopic point of view, GE Haowen adopted a domestication strategy for directional expectation. The translator takes full account of the receptivity and acceptance level of the target readers and combines the directed expectation and the innovation expectation to achieve the fusion of the reader and the translation horizon. In order to maintain the reader's interest in reading, the translator retains some undecided points, while considering the limited receptivity of the western readers to Chinese cultural factors, The other part adopts the concrete strategy. The character image and the natural image in Xiao Hong's biography of the Hulan River are preserved and prominent in the translation, which shows that GE Haowen always follows the implied readers. It is further explained that only by following the presupposition structure of the original text can the theme of the original text be effectively grasped and transmitted. In addition, the translation makes full use of various translation techniques. It not only satisfies the readers' expectations and aesthetic experience, but also promotes the spread of Chinese culture. It is hoped that this study will provide relevant references for the future study of the translation of Hulan River Biography into English.
