语篇分析视角下《卖花女》的译者风格研究

【摘要】:“译者风格”指在语言体系中某些或某类语项和结构在一个特定译本中经常的,有统计意义的复现。对于相同的源语文本,不同的译者由于源语文本及译入语规范的制约,以及时代背景,社会文化以及个体选择的影响,会生成各具风格的译文。近年来,众多学者基于不同的理论对于译者风格进行了深入的研究,但基于语篇衔接与连贯的语篇分析理论对译者风格进行的研究为数不多。系统功能语言学中有关语篇衔接与连贯的分析模式对于连贯语篇的形成机制及影响因素具有较好的阐释力。在两种不同的语言中,语篇衔接机制存在差异,形成连贯语篇的模式因而不同,这就给翻译过程带来了挑战。对于同一源语语篇,不同的译者为形成通顺连贯的译文会选择各具特色的翻译策略。译文语篇中处理英语衔接机制的方法策略及译文的语言风格,是译者翻译风格的重要依据。因此,对于不同译文中的翻译策略,用语风格以及语境因素进行比较分析,可以深入探讨译者翻译风格的异同及其形成因素。本研究依据语篇衔接与连贯理论,利用语料库的研究方法,将林语堂和杨宪益两个译本中对于Pygmalion原文中的衔接机制所采用的翻译策略进行比较分析,旨在探究译者风格的异同,并进一步结合历史文化语境探讨影响译者风格的深层原因。研究主要围绕照应、替代、省略、连接四种常见的衔接手段及其翻译策略进行比较分析,并对话语标记语和具有衔接作用的特殊句式的翻译策略进行了深入剖析。基于定量与定性的分析调查,研究发现林语堂与杨宪益的译文中衔接手段与翻译策略显示出较大差异,形成不同的翻译风格。林语堂总体上倾向于异化的翻译风格,以直译、改译为主,译文形式化较高且用词较丰富。杨宪益倾向于归化的翻译风格,常使用省译或显化等翻译策略且语言简洁,较为接近口语。从历时的角度来看,两位译者所处的时代背景不同,现代汉语发展阶段不同,因而译本的翻译目的及读者群存在差异,影响了译者遣词造句及翻译策略的选择。从共时的角度来看,林语堂期望通过文学翻译促进现代汉语的欧化,但考虑到中国读者较为封闭的知识结构,他主张翻译中汉语的欧化应该只局限于词汇和短语结构,较之同时代的其他译者他采取更多的归化策略。两位译者在各自生活的时代都以读者期待与译文可读性为重要的参考因素,形成了符合汉语习惯、通顺连贯的译文。研究结果进一步证明译者翻译风格的形成是历史文化背景、社会意识形态以及译者个人选择相互作用的结果,这为戏剧的翻译实践以及译者风格成因的研究提供了较为有价值的依据。
[Abstract]:"translator's style" refers to the frequent and statistically significant repetition of some or certain types of language items and structures in a particular translation in a language system. For the same source language, different translators are constrained by the source language text and the target language norms. In recent years, many scholars have conducted in-depth studies on translators' styles based on different theories. However, there are few studies on translator's style based on discourse cohesion and coherence. The formation Mechanism and influence factors of discourse cohesion and coherence in systemic functional Linguistics. In two different languages, Because of the differences in cohesive mechanisms and the different patterns of cohesive discourse, this brings challenges to the process of translation. Different translators choose different translation strategies in order to form a smooth and coherent translation. The methods and strategies of dealing with the cohesion mechanism in the target text and the language style of the target text are the important basis for the translator's translation style. A comparative analysis of translation strategies, lexical styles and contextual factors in different translations can explore the similarities and differences of translators' translation styles and their formative factors. The present study is based on the theory of cohesion and coherence. By using the corpus approach, this paper makes a comparative analysis of the translation strategies adopted by Lin Yutang and Yang Xianyi for the cohesive mechanism of the Pygmalion source text, with a view to exploring the similarities and differences of the translator's style. Furthermore, the author explores the underlying causes of the translator's style in the context of historical and cultural context. The study focuses on four common cohesive devices and their translation strategies: anaphora, substitution, ellipsis and connection. Based on the quantitative and qualitative analysis, it is found that there are great differences between the cohesive devices and the translation strategies in the translation of Lin Yutang and Yang Xianyi. In general, Lin Yutang tends to dissimilation translation style, mainly literal translation, modified translation, higher formalization of the translation and more abundant words. Yang Xianyi tends to domesticate the translation style. Translation strategies such as saving translation or explicit translation are often used, and the language is concise and close to spoken language. From a diachronic perspective, the two translators are in different times and have different stages of development in modern Chinese. As a result, there are differences in translation purposes and readership, which affect the choice of translator's choice of words and sentences and translation strategies. From a synchronic point of view, Lin Yutang hopes to promote the Europeanization of modern Chinese through literary translation. However, in view of the relatively closed knowledge structure of Chinese readers, he argues that the Europeanization of Chinese in translation should be confined to lexical and phrasal structures. He adopted more domestication strategies than other translators of his time. Both translators took readers' expectation and readability as important reference factors in their respective times and formed a Chinese habit. The results of the study further prove that the formation of the translator's translation style is the result of the interaction of historical and cultural background, social ideology and the translator's individual choice. This provides a valuable basis for the translation practice of drama and the study of the causes of the translator's style.
