从神话原型角度看《纯真年代》

【摘要】:伊迪丝·华顿是美国二十世纪初杰出的小说家,尤其擅长风俗小说的创作,其文学作品的社会背景多为十九世纪末二十世纪初的美国“老纽约”上流社会,着重描述了个人与社会之间的矛盾以及男权社会里女性的从属地位和悲惨命运。《纯真年代》就是其中的一部经典之作。作者以其细腻的笔触刻画了“老纽约”上流社会的刻板和伪善,向读者展示了一幅丰富生动的社会风俗画。 本文从神话原型角度来分析华顿的代表小说《纯真年代》。根据神话原型理论的代表人物弗莱的观点,神话是文学的结构因素,文学是移位的神话。他认为原型可以作为文学独立交际的单位,原型以主题、人物、意象等多种形式在不同时代的不同体裁的作品中以象征的方式反复出现。因此对于小说读者来说,必须借助特定的文学语境去深入地分析作品中的神话蕴涵及其象征意义才能真正地把握作品的思想内涵。 本文主要从原型意象、原型人物和原型母题这三个方面对小说进行原型分析。追寻原型、成长原型和替罪羊原型都是一些原型母题的置换,,他们丰富了小说的内涵。从原型人物这一角度来说,小说的的人物梅和艾伦与神话中的人物相对应。除此之外,小说还含有丰富的原型意象。 通过小说中各种原型的分析,笔者认为华顿创造性地运用神话原型,赋予小说人物以神性是因为她关注男权社会里女性及其生存状况,寄托了她对理想的社会秩序和理想新女性的探求。
[Abstract]:Edith Wharton is an outstanding American novelist at the beginning of the twentieth century, who is especially good at the creation of custom novels. The social background of her literary works is the upper-class society of "Old New York" in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The contradiction between individual and society and the subordinate status and tragic fate of women in patriarchal society are described emphatically. The author portrays the stereotype and hypocrisy of the upper class society of Old New York with his delicate strokes, and shows readers a rich and vivid social genre painting. This paper analyzes Wharton's representative novel the Age of innocence from the perspective of mythological archetype. According to Frey, the representative of mythology prototype theory, mythology is a structural factor of literature and literature is a shifting myth. He holds that archetypes can be regarded as the units of literary independent communication. The archetypes appear repeatedly in different genres of different times in the form of themes, characters, images and so on. Therefore, for the readers of the novel, we must use the specific literary context to deeply analyze the mythical implication and its symbolic meaning in the works in order to truly grasp the ideological connotation of the works. This paper analyzes the archetype of the novel from three aspects: archetypal image, archetypal characters and archetypal motif. Archetypes, growth prototypes and scapegoat archetypes are the replacement of some archetypal motifs, which enrich the connotation of the novel. From the perspective of archetypal characters, the characters of the novel, Mei and Allen, correspond to the mythical characters. In addition, the novel also contains rich archetypal images. Through the analysis of various archetypes in the novel, the author thinks that Wharton creatively uses mythical archetypes and endows the characters with divinity because she pays attention to women and their living conditions in the patriarchal society. She assigns her quest for the ideal social order and ideal new women.
