为赛珍珠笔下的“不实”形象正名

【摘要】：赛珍珠倾其一生致力于将中国文化介绍到西方,并凭借《大地》三部曲等中国题材作品获得1938年度诺贝尔文学奖。在她的《大地》之前,大多数西方作家笔下的中国形象都是他们想象中的中国人,要么是通晓圣哲的儒士,要么是十恶不赦的恶棍。然而赛珍珠却以其在中国生活的真实经历,第一次刻画了世界文学史上真正的中国人形象,也因此被誉为“沟通中西方文化的人桥”。然而,自20世纪30年代中国译介和评判赛珍珠作品以来,她笔下的中国人形象一直受到大量中国学者的质疑。他们认为这些中国人并不能代表广大的中国人民,因此是“不实的”。本文力图追寻赛珍珠在中国生活的真实经历,结合她搜集的事实素材与其小说中相应的人物形象进行比照,以此证实其创作的真实性与可信性,为她的“不实”正名。绪论部分追溯国内外赛珍珠研究的历史,指出国内学界对于赛珍珠笔下中国人形象的质疑。论文主体将分为三个部分。第一部分参照赛珍珠在安徽宿州的真实生活,证实其描写的中国最普遍的原初农民的形象是真实可信的。第二部分结合赛珍珠在各类传记中的回忆和言论所体现出的其对中国农民局限性的思考,证实其刻画的20世纪初叶饱受困顿挫折困扰的中国农民形象是真实的。第三部分结合赛珍珠在各类演讲、报告中的观点,以及其对于中国留学生的切身接触,阐释其笔下中国农民抗日的英勇壮举是一种真实的记录,其笔下留学生改造中国是赛珍珠对于未来的大胆设想和伟大预言。
[Abstract]:Pearl Buck devoted his life to introducing Chinese culture to the West and won the 1938 Nobel Prize for Literature with Chinese works such as the Earth trilogy. Before her land, most Western writers portrayed China as their imaginary Chinese, either saint-wise Confucianism or heinous villains. However, Pearl S. Buck, for the first time, depicts the true Chinese image in the history of world literature with her real life experience in China, and is therefore praised as "the bridge of communication between Chinese and Western culture". However, since she translated and judged Pearl Buck's works in the 1930s, her Chinese image has been questioned by a large number of Chinese scholars. They believe that the Chinese do not represent the vast majority of the Chinese people and are therefore "untrue". This paper tries to pursue Pearl Buck's true life in China, and compares the factual material collected by her with the corresponding characters in her novels, so as to prove the authenticity and credibility of her creation and to correct her "false" name. The introduction traces the history of Pearl Buck's research at home and abroad, and points out that the Chinese image in Pearl Buck's writings is questioned by domestic scholars. The main body of the thesis will be divided into three parts. The first part, referring to Pearl Buck's real life in Suzhou, Anhui Province, proves that the image of the most common primitive peasant in China is true and credible. The second part combines with Pearl Buck's reflection on the limitation of Chinese farmers in various biographies, and proves that the image of Chinese peasants who suffered from setbacks in the early 20th century is true. In the third part, combining the viewpoints of Pearl Buck in various speeches and reports, as well as her personal contact with Chinese students, it explains that the heroic feat of Chinese peasants' resistance to Japan is a true record. It is Pearl Buck's bold vision and great prophecy to the future.
