【摘要】：考琳·麦卡洛是当代澳大利亚一位多才多艺的女作家。她闻名于世的作品《荆棘鸟》是一部家世小说，讲述了克利里一家三代在澳大利亚的生活、爱情、以及死亡的生命历程，生动刻画了梅吉与后来做了红衣主教的拉尔夫之间的爱情故事。自1977年问世后，引起了极大的轰动，也倍受学界关注。国内外的文学评论家对该作品中主要人物、主题、以及叙事技巧等许多方面进行了大量的研究。二元对立现象广泛存在与文学作品中，已成为文学批评领域重要的研究方法。在《荆棘鸟》中存在着大量的二元对立现象,本文在前人研究的基础上尝试用结构主义理论的核心——二元对立对该作品进行较深入和系统的分析,进而揭示作者是如何成功的深化主题,刻画人物以及渲染小说的悲剧色彩。论文包括三个部分。第一部分是引言,简要的介绍了作者并回顾了对本作品已有的各种评论,同时也介绍了二元对立的理论及其在文学批评中的运用。第二部分是论文的主体,共分为三章。第一章主要是运用二元对立的原则来分析作者对人物的刻画。主要涉及到的是两对二元对立:传统美德与反叛精神,事业家与牺牲品。小说中的人物不断地同命运抗争,却又不断地被无情的命运所捉弄,最终逃脱不了悲惨的结局。梅吉完美的传统女性与反叛的固执不断的发生冲突,菲优雅的气质与悲伤的情绪形成鲜明对立，传统美德与反叛精神是酿成她们两个人生悲剧的原因。拉尔夫事业上的野心与感情上的怯懦不断的发生冲突，玛丽事业生活中的聪明与世故形成鲜明对立，他们都取得了事业上的成功，而这恰恰是他们人生悲剧的重要原因。第二章分析小说主题中存在的二元对立现象,即神性与世俗性,爱与恨的对立，以及父权制下女性意识的觉醒。小说中拉尔夫的神职与欲望，忠诚与背叛的对立戏剧化地反映了神性与世俗性的对立。麦琪在禁爱环境下爱与恨的挣扎，玛丽由爱生恨自私残酷的对待他人，都揭示了爱与恨的主题。生活在父权社会下的四位女性，在追求各自的幸福生活中不同程度地显示了女性意识的觉醒与发展。第三章是从意象的角度来探讨二元对立在小说中的运用,通过对荆棘鸟、德罗海达、火等象征意义的二元对立分析,进一步揭示了对深化主题,增强悲剧效果所起的作用。第三部分是结论,这一部分简要总结了前述各部分的主要内容,并得出了如下结论:在《荆棘鸟》中,几对二元对立根源来自考琳的生活背景和她自身的思考，她运用这几对二元对立成功地刻画了人物,深化了主题,挖掘出人物悲剧的根源来自于个人性格和社会层面，从而增强了小说的艺术效果。
[Abstract]:Corinne McCullough is a versatile woman writer in contemporary Australia. Her world-famous work, Thorn Birds, is a family story about the life, love, and death of the Clary family in Australia for three generations. It vividly depicts the love story between Meggie and Ralph, who later became Cardinal. Since its publication in 1977, it has caused a great sensation and attracted much attention. Literary critics at home and abroad have done a lot of research on the main characters, themes and narrative techniques. The phenomenon of dualism exists widely in literary works and has become an important research method in the field of literary criticism. There is a large number of binary opposites in Thorn Birds. On the basis of previous studies, this paper attempts to use the core of structuralism theory-dualistic antagonism to make a deep and systematic analysis of this work. Then it reveals how the author successfully deepens the theme, portrays the characters and exaggerates the tragic color of the novel. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part is the introduction, briefly introduces the author and reviews the existing comments on this work, but also introduces the theory of duality and its application in literary criticism. The second part is the main body of the thesis, which is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly uses the principle of duality to analyze the author's portrayal of the characters. It mainly involves two pairs of dualistic opposites: traditional virtues and rebellious spirit, entertainers and victims. The characters in the novel constantly struggle with their fate, but they are constantly fooled by the merciless fate, and can not escape the tragic ending. Meggie's perfect traditional woman conflicts with the rebellious stubbornness constantly, the elegant temperament of Fei and the sad emotion are in sharp opposition, the traditional virtue and the rebellious spirit are the causes of their life tragedy. Ralph's ambition in career conflicts with her emotional cowardice, and Mary's cleverness and sophistication in her career are in sharp opposition, and they all achieve success in their career, which is precisely the important reason for their tragedy. The second chapter analyzes the dualistic phenomena in the theme of the novel, that is, divinity and secularity, the opposition between love and hate, and the awakening of female consciousness under patriarchy. The opposites of Ralph's ministry and desire, loyalty and betrayal dramatize the opposites of divinity and secularity. Maggie's struggle to love and hate in the forbidden environment, Mary's love and hate, selfish and cruel treatment of others, all reveal the theme of love and hate. The four women living in the patriarchal society, in pursuit of their own happy lives, to varying degrees, show the awakening and development of women's consciousness. The third chapter discusses the application of binary antagonism in the novel from the perspective of image. Through the analysis of the symbolic meaning of the thornbird, Derohaida, fire and so on, the author further reveals the role of the binary opposition in deepening the theme and enhancing the tragic effect. The third part is the conclusion, this part briefly summarizes the main contents of the above-mentioned parts, and draws the following conclusion: in "the Thorn Bird", several pairs of dualistic opposition roots come from the living background of Corinne and her own thinking. She successfully depicts the characters, deepens the theme and finds out that the root of the tragedy comes from the personal character and the social level, which enhances the artistic effect of the novel.
